C5 Harness set up. Anyone run like this???
Anybody ever run a setup like this in their C5? I rode in a C6Z with this kind of set up as a passenger. They had the seat bottom modded to allow the 5/6 point to attach.

I've seen Z06 cars with their seats modified to run set ups like that on the track. Seem to work fine up to the point that the seats don't hold you quite as well as race seats.

OOOps ... the harness is not in correctly . The belts should be
crossed behind the drivers seat.

Crossed only if the distance is over 18" seat to harness bar/cage. And with that being a single opening instead of two(one for each belt) I wouldn't want to cross them; under load I would be worries about the two belts squeezing your neck.

However, there is something wrong with that setup. The harness bar is too high thus the seat back interferes with the straight line required from the harness mounting point to the top of the shoulder. The seat back pushes down on the belt and when an incident happens the several thousand pound force applied to the belt snaps it straight by breaking the seat back or at least pushing the flimsy frame out of the way which means you suddenly have a lot of unwanted slack. Another problem with the harness bar being that high is even with a proper seat and belt path the belts don't work as well (refer to the schroth info above).

BUT, a high speed track environment is a different animal. This bar, IMO, in a hard frontal impact, might give due to the fore/aft support being a steel piece about 5" long that's welded to the harness bar and "clamps" around the waterfall sheet metal that starts the storage shelf behind the front seats. I thought that metal might simply bend open in a hard hit and allow the bar to pivot forward a few inches. Found this, maybe it'll help show what I'm trying to describe:

HTH, and have a good one,

The Shark Bar sets further rearward and some what lower thus providing a better angle for the belt path.
