Default Thermo Conductivity

I've read that an engine will run cooler on straight water vs 50/50 H2O / Antifreeze

True ?

Also - if an engine with 100% H2O run's at 220 deg would the water boil ?

Also - As I recall, from my service dept days, doesn't water corrode aluminum ? ( radiator, head's, etc )

thanks

The specific heat of 50/50 ethylene glycol mix is about 20% lower than clean water. That said, the temperature guage will read the same with either coolant. The minimum temperature of the engine cooling system is controlled by the thermostat and the maximum temperature is controlled by the capacity of the cooling system. The coolant is just one component of that system. Engineers design coolant flow to meet the sytem capacity targets with the 50/50 mix.

Clean water will boil at 212F at one atmosphere ambient pressure. It will boil at higher temperatures at higher sytem pressures.

There are aluminium alloys that are very resistant to corrosion by water.

Yes it will that's why people run distilled water and water wetter. Water gives max heat transfer and water wetter is a lube and corrosion inhibitor.

Also if you have a leak or a hose blow out. Others will not hit the wall from your antifreeze ice.
