Default 12" high Race Ramps trailer ramps for high trailer deck

Cars with both a low approach angle and a low break over angle are a challenge to load onto a trailer. Add a 24" high trailer deck to the mix and you are likely to find yourself struggling with the break over angle.

Typical Race Ramp trailer ramps range in height from 4" to 9". Race Ramps does offer one ramp model that is 11" high, 131" long and has an incline of about 5 degrees. With a 24" high trailer deck chances are that the trailer door will need to be lifted even more than 11" to accommodate the break over angle on the car.

Reverse Logic adapted its RLL-87-2 Race Ramps service ramp making it into a 12" high trailer ramp by substituting a 12" high trailer ramp extension for the 10" high service ramp platform.

Default Rough calculation of break over angle clearance

You can ESTIMATE the break over angle clearance at the trailer door hinge using this formula.

Ground Clearance - ((Wheelbase/2)/Door Length) x (Deck Height - Race Ramp Height))/2 = Break Over Clearance

Assuming the following dimensions:

Ground Clearance between axles: 4"
Wheelbase: 100"
Trailer Door Length: 80"
Trailer Deck Height: 18"
Race Ramps Height: 6"

the break over clearance would be about 0.25"

4" - ((100"/2)/80") x (18" - 6"))/2 = 0.25"

1/4" of clearance is not much head room, so you would probably want to use a taller Race Ramp to allow for other variables like how level the trailer is parked when loading.
