Do your sponsors know of your current status with Pikes Peak?

Did you happen to get one of those BS letters "fining" you for the burnouts after the race? Apparently Bob Bolien received one and is causing a bit of an uproar. You guys were just trying to give the fans what they wanted!

Just a quick update. I haven't had anything substantial to mention for sometime. Hence the lack of updates. I picked up the car on Saturday. And I hope to have a more through and detailed update soon. Until then, here is a pic before I loaded it up!

Well if there was ever a project update that was overdue. This is it!

I've been wanting to bring everyone into the fold on the situation. But there really hasn't been anything new or positive to report.

That being said. I'm now in a position to report good news! We originally had a dyno/tuning session scheduled for late October. A clutch malfunction forced us to miss that appointment. And unfortunately, was just recently addressed.

The car completed probably close to a dozen runs on the dyno last evening without a hiccup. James Karger performed all of the calibration and tuning. This was performed on the dynojet @ Evolution Dyanmics in Lewisville.

My original goal was to make at least 800whp/wtq @ altitude. With lower settings depending on the track or race setting.

Naturally, I also wanted a usable power band. That maintained good drive ability and made reliable power. This is one of the reasons I went with the boosted LS in the first place.

Whelp the car did well considering. 670whp/770wtq. Not quite what I wanted. But certainly stout. This is on a very conservative tune. We weren't able to fully control the wastegate to hold more than 8psi. So we got it to peak for bit, but then it would quickly drop.

For right now I am pleased. This is more than enough power to put a grin on my face. And be fast on ANY track. So the next step is to get an alignment. Work on some small issues before track use. And at least get a front splitter on it to match the wing. Then test test test.

After that, we will go back and add power. As well as fulfilling the rest of the aero package and tackling any other weaknesses that come up.

What is the wrap/heat protection that you have over the exhaust manifolds?

Those are metal shields that came with the APS kit. They are quite nice and bolt directly to the manifolds.

I enjoyed every moment of this build. Ever since I found it yesterday
A couple of questions.
First it sounds like you are using a stock ls6 block from gm with fancy internals, is that correct? (I ask because my engine builder keeps trying to talk me up to a ls2, or ls3)
Secondly
I'm really interested in the side exhaust you mentioned a couple of pages back. Where are you planning on having it exit?
Thanks.

Yes, brand new stock LS6 block. After reading about all the issues with oiling for LS2,3,7 motors. I figured this was the safe bet. I also did some reading on all the drag guys. Some of which complained of too much torque from the bigger cube motors. So they preferred the 5.7 or smaller for easier power management down low.

Having 500ftlbs of torque at just under 3,600 revs should be sufficient

Unfortunately, I don't believe the side exit exhaust is going to work at the moment. Primarily due to the location of the down pipes. As they terminate fairly far back.

PS, thanks! I'm more eager and excited than I can articulate to get this thing on the track.

It may be in here earlier, but is this a dry sump engine? Or at least an accusump?

Batwing pan. No $$ for a dry sump.... At least from the last update. Unless I missed something.

Have you got any pics of the intercooler routing? Looks to have changed a little since last time (from over the rad to around the sides).

Good question. I have limited mechanic capabilities. And almost no fab skills.

That is correct.

Yes I do. Sorry I never posted any of those pics. That was during the rush to get the car ready for pikes peak.

I would strongly suggest getting at least an accusump, especially for how capable that car is. You can easily kill an engine even on r comps going around turns like t1-2 at tws.

Fwiw, on an rc1 I would drop about 25 psi of oil pressure going through those turns in my C5z pre -accusump.

The car is at a shop right now getting prepared for it's 1st track outing. Shoot me a message on FB and lets talk!

I've been told the accusump wasn't necessary. Basically that it couldn't react fast enough. There is a lot of conflicting info around oiling for LS motors. I do have a high volume oil pump. And the engine builder is confident that will be enough. Obviously, I'd prefer a dry sump. But that's not in the cards at the moment.
