Aftermarket harmonic balancer allowed in SCCA autoX street classes?
My harmonic balancer is starting to wobble in my C6 and I want to change it before it gets worse and comes apart. Is an aftermarket balancer like the ATI Super Damper allowed? I would get the factory size version.

Not legal that I know of in a stock/street class. As has always been the case since I started SCCA the rules force you to replace a known to fail part with exactly the same known to fail part.
The bright side is you do get faster at it after a while.
Same with radiators, control arms, brakes, clutches, diffs, the list goes on.
Eventually you get sick of it and move to a street prepared or other class where you can fix some of it.

It isn't the center part that is the problem, it's the outer ring that starts to separate from the center, get loose, and wobble. I had the same problem with the LS2 in my CTS-V. It was replaced under warranty, but started to wobble again before I sold the car.

While running some HPDE/time trials, my Balancer started moving forward..Heavy 3rd gear track...and blew the belt. I replaced the balance with another GM unit but pinned it. Fortunately when I autocross, I am old and half-fast.

It's hard to bandaid a basically under engineered part. High rpms are what kills them.
ATI fixes the whole mess.

Curious on similar points of view for valve springs, oil pump, timing chain for T2 class (or T1 limited prep). I assume a turn one pump with their pulley is not allowed either?

A damper would be legal in STU... but then the car isn't (C5's only). But if anyone reading has a C5 and is thinking of STU a better damper like an ATI or Fluidampr (my preference) is ok.... even in an underdrive setup.
But no, not in stock.... er, um.... "street".
