Default Formula One - United States - TV Schedule

Formula One - UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX - MULTIPLE NETWORKS!!!
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I am posting this earlier than normal as there are a couple of gotchas
in next weekend's coverage and I wanted everyone to get a chance to think
about them.

This looks like the way it's going to be now but I'll keep an eye on things
as the week goes on in case there are changes (they might add some
reshowings, for example.)

I was correct! Several changes have been made since I first posted this.
Be sure to go through this again - as well as check your local listings - as
several changes have been made!!

I try to get this right but they don't make it easy!
So be sure to double check things - especially the channels!

THINGS TO KNOW

COVERAGE WILL BE ON *TWO* NBC NETWORKS. NBC AND NBC SPORTS NET

THE PRE-RACE SHOW IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE LIVE NBC SHOWING OF THE RACE.

THE PRE-RACE SHOW IS SCHEDULED SEPARATELY FROM THE RACE

THE PRE-RACE SHOW WILL BE ON BOTH NBC SPORTSNET AND NBC.
See the schedule.

*LIVE* COVERAGE OF PRACTICE 1 WILL BE ON THE NBC SPORTS NET

*LIVE* COVERAGE OF PRACTICE 2 WILL BE ON THE NBC SPORTS NET

*LIVE* COVERAGE OF PRACTICE 3 WILL BE ON NBC SPORTS NET

*LIVE* COVERAGE OF QUALIFYING WILL ONLY BE ON NBC

*LIVE* COVERAGE OF THE RACE WILL ONLY BE NBC

1. THE TIMES AND PROGRAM LENGTHS FOR THIS WEEKEND ARE DIFFERENT, SO PAY ATTENTION!

2. The LENGTHS of SOME shows are different! For example, the Saturday
xxQualifying show ON NBC is scheduled for 2 1/2 hours!

3. Once again - the PRE-RACE show for the LIVE showing of the race is
xxNOT INCLUDED IN THE RACE SHOW ITSELF this week!!!

The post-race show "F1 Extra" is shown immediately after the race
show whatever time that may be. the simplest way to make sure you
record it is to simply add enough extra time to the race broadcast recording to
get (a) any extra time that was needed to record the entire race
including any delays, and (b) "F1 Extra". My standard is to
add at least three hours (!) just to make sure I cover most eventualities.
Note that this week the post-race show is promised to last a full hour and
will show on NBC!!

I pull this info from from my Tivo's schedule. I have no guarantee that
it is correct but it usually is.

Default Race Reshowing

Note that NBC SportsNet has added a reshowing of the Austin race for Monday afternoon/evening. Check your listings to be sure of the time.

NBC and NBC SportsNet have confirmed that they intend to show qualifying LIVE on *both* NBC *and* NBC SportsNet. They also intend to show all three practice sessions.

I will update the schedule up top in a little bit once I confirm the times with the TIVO schedule.

Also, to get your brains working, Sunday's pre-race show "F1 Countdown" will be expanded to a full hour in length. But there's a catch. It starts at 11:00 AM (Pacific) on NBC SportsNet, goes for 1/2 hour and then, at 11:30 AM (Pacific) switches to NBC for the second half hour!

"F1 Countdown will feature sit-down interviews between Diffey and Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci, as well as motorsports Stavast with Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, and a feature with Buxton and four-time F1 World Champion and Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, as they cruise through the streets of downtown Austin."

Also:

"Following Practice 2, NBCSN’s edition of F1 Countdown on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Pacific will feature sit-down interviews between Steve Matchett and Gene Haas and Haas F1 Team Principal Gunther Steiner, discussing the prospects of an American F1 team in 2016."

Ok, I have updated the schedule in post #1 to reflect what I think is correct. Note that on race day, the only thing that NBC SportsNet is showing is the first half hour of the pre-race show at 11:00 AM Pacific time. After that, everything is on NBC.

Be sure to recheck any recordings that you might have set up using the originally posted schedule!!! I know I had to fix two on my Tivo.

They sure don't make it easy...

It's very cool that they are showing qualifying on NBC proper.

And again, the qualifying show on NBC is scheduled to last 2.5 hours!

** always add extra time to every recording that you can !! **

I know! That's why I commented on it from the beginning - it just seemed wrong. On the other hand, this is what F1 has needed in the U.S. for decades - broadcasting partner in it over time to make the sport grow and not just showing it to sell sponsorship.

So kudos to them for this. It's a nice show of commitment to F1 in America, to COTA, and to the U.S. F1 fans.

Now, the negative bit...

Did anyone catch Lewis Hamilton's appearance on "The Today Show" this morning? What a freakin' joke. If the F1 community wanted a prime example of why not to bother with the American TV promotion game, this sure handed it to them on a silver platter. They went to the trouble of having a Merc F1 car there. They had Lewis all dressed up in his finery. They had a decent crowd of cheering F1 fans surrounding the scene. Then they gave the entire thing maybe 2 minutes of time - giving Hamilton precious little to do or say - showing 10 seconds of footage of Lewis and Nico cruising along together on some track - before cutting back inside to talk to Diane Von Furstenberg. It was sooooo not worth the effort that Merc and Lewis had to put into it. It wasn't worth *any* effort that they put into it. Somebody at NBC Sports should be knocking some heads at the Today Show's executive offices for this one. "Wow!" indeed.

I think you meant to say that race on Sunday is at 3pm eastern... Not 2pm.

Indeed. All the NBC+NBCSportsNet jockeying about had my brain hurting.

Thanks.

Thank you for the schedule updates! Missed the Today Show thing, but the farce wouldn't have been unexpected! At least with the F1 races, the up-front TV money must have been so high that they wouldn't dare FU the race broadcast.
"and because of our coverage of the De Moine marathon is running long, we'll be joining our car race at the mid way point".

Glad to hear it. It's hard to think of a better soap opera anywhere!
