ΔP Testing on Stock C5 Hood - Trackspec Vents

It's an autocross car that doesn't get driven on the streets often. It's not your typical autocross though, were usually well into 3rd gear at most events, so it's not the normal 1st and 2nd gear stuff.

Here is screen shot from one of my races. It is only for a split second at minute 3:14, but it happened almost every lap running with an extra heavy fuel load and the slightly larger diameter Pirelli slicks used in Trans Am racing.
At Turn Nine at WSIR my left front tire would bottom out momentarily in the apex dip. It would rub slightly and create a puff of smoke. The smoke didn't come out the side of the wheel well. I got sucked up and out through the hood vent. I think this is one of the clearest examples of how well the Trackspec hood venting works to lower under hood pressure and pull more air through the radiator if you follow their hood venting placement recommendations.
You can see the video here. The same thing happens nearly every lap if I hit the apex properly.

best hood vents for c6 by far imo. easy to install and the front end of my 900whp c6 is wayyyy more planted at speed than without them. have had the car to 175mph in the 1/2 mile and it is dramatically better now. cooling is noticably improved when moving too. great upgrade

Oli, is your wheel well vented to the hood vents? More specifically did you cut holes in the fiberglass between the battery box and overflow tank? And my final question, will venting the wheel well through the hood be legal in specvette? I ordered my vents and do not want to do anything that I would have to undo if I ever go the specvette route, but I want to maximize the use of the vents. Thank you for any answers you are able to provide.

No, that is not allowed in Spec Corvette. While I am not an aerodynamics specialist, my study of the air flow on the C5 I have concluded cutting those holes is of limited benefit. The front wheel wells on the C5 are not apparently a high pressure area as it is on many other model cars. An interesting video factoid though is to see that the Trackspec hood vents do in fact suck out the smoke from the wheel wheel when I get tire rub.

just wanted to say thanks for this post. i ended up sending it to TrackSpec who confirmed your findings. here's my car in final painted form, with the vents, which are VERY functional.
was installing/sizing front aero at the time, thus no connecting rods, before anybody asks.

Sean, If I could ask a couple of questions. what are the components you used on the front for that splitter config? Also it seems you are using two of the four vents. Why is that?

For all of the inquiries about the yarn testing, I have not done any more testing with the C5Z/FRC aerodynamics since the final update of this thread as the car was rolled However, I do have the hood from the original car and a FRC in the garage that I will be able to continue with soon.
