Default TO anyone who has gutted out a C6 Im looking for some quick advice

Id like to remove the sound deadening in between the engine and cabin.
This is the only diagram I have found. Im not sure if this is removed by taking out the windshield wipers and cowl, or if its under the dash.

Im looking to remove part number 3 listed by gm as "sound absorber"

Thanks!

Thanks!

It's located on the cabin side of the firewall. You need to remove the intake manifold, console, dash, hvac module, steering column, and pedal bracket to remove the sound deadener piece.

It's a foam backed, thick rubber. I pulled mine last week and it is heavy. Well worth the weight savings.

How much would you estimate braknl8? 2 lbs? 6 lbs? el es, what else have you dropped and do you have weights? I have dropped over 140 lbs and still have the HVAC, windows, motors, tracks to go....hope to drop just under 3000 when I am done.

I'm terrible at guessing weight...close to 5, probably. If it can be measured in lbs...

I would consider it worth it @ 5 lbs. Hell I am pulling stuff to get mere ozs off the car! Should all kinds of other stuff behind the dash to pull out also.....airbag, evaporator coil, etc.

Can I just take the lower dash stuff out to get to it or does the upper dash need to come out? I dont mind hacking the foam up and just tossing it...

Thanks!

Heres an actively updated list of part weights for the C6:

So I have my dash out right now removing some other things and it would be a major PITA. The HVAC unit as a whole has to come out which means you have to unbolt the unit from the motor side of firewall to pull the unit. The heater core and ac lines would also have to be disconnected to pull the unit out. Some small peices could be trimmed in some spots but not sure if it would be worth the work unless you already had the dash out.
