Simon Gregg won GT-1 and overall in the Derhaag Motorsports Prepared C7 TA car. Simon is a former Trans Am champion and of course the son of the late great road race ace Peter Gregg. Juan Vento was second in GT-1 in a Corvette. Notably third was a Ford GT (GT40) driven by George Nolte. This was a GT3 or WC spec car that has just recently been allowed in SCCA GT-1.

Bobby Kennedy took GT-2 and fourth overall in the BEMCO Fabrication Mustang. This is the car that Bobby drove to second at the Daytona Trans Am race in November behind Cameron Lawrence's factory backed Dodge Challenger. Bobby ran 1:23's in qualifying and 1:24's in the race.

Russ Snow was 2nd in GT2 in a Corvette with Bryan Collyer 3rd in a Chevy Impala late model stock Car (GTA type). 4th in GT2 was Charles Wicht in a Howe TA2 Camaro.

Andrew Aquilante took first in T1 with a best lap of 1:26.090 which I am betting is a new track record.

Big field and a lot of fast cars. It looks like a lot of folks are wanting to qualify for the SCCA runoffs return to Daytona this year.

So did they repave track, run short length or what compared to
last year. I noticed Cameron Lawrence ran a 1:29 in his Trans am Camaro in 2014 and times were in the 25's & 26's yesterday.

3-4 seconds quicker this year, what gives?

TA ran in 2014 on the club course and yesterday was run on the pro course. Not sure of the typical difference in lap time for the two courses, however at Daytona TA in November Cameron won in the Dodge with a best lap of 1:53, while Bobby Kennedy finished second with a best lap of low 1:54.

Last year at Homestead Cameron was still running the Camaro.

John Yarosz won GT-2 in the Phoenix Corvette with Bobby Kennedy second in the Bemco TA2 Mustang.

It was a great field with good racing in most classes.
I wish I had replaced my camera when it died last year, I would have had some pictures to post.
We can look forward to seeing Jerry Onks join the race in Sebring this weekend.
I really love the GT2 Corvettes in the Pheonix stable. Just enough stuff removed compared to the T1 cars to make them alot easier to work on and prettier under the hood!

I'll be crewing the two Celicas running in E Production again this weekend. Hopefully we won't have any major work to do this time. I'm getting too old for replacing a clutch in a FWD transverse engine car.
