Default 6pt harness, where to mount crotch belts

Guys,

I have a used harness I am trying to mount. Just a quick question. The two crotch belts that go through the middle seat whole on a 6pt harness can they attach to the fixed seat rails (Hardbar) or do you need to fabricate a crossbar which goes between both seat rails and then mount the belts to that?

I would draw a picture but I suck.

Schrothracing.com shows a 100 mm spacing for the sub belts. There is a really good instruction manual on their site for their belts. So you would need a cross bar if you followed their recommendation

Crossbar would be best. However, sizing it and fitting it between the Hardbar rails is not necessarily straight forward. I figured it would require a minimum 1 inch diameter steel bar that would have to bolted to the rails. You want it strong enough it won't bend under a couple thousand pounds of pressure and you don't want the fastening bolts to shear off where the bar is fastened to the seat bracket.

I did this which probably isn't ideal but seems to fit with some of the diagrams I have seen in the Schroth Instructions.

I bought a setup from vetteworks that provides an anchor point for both the sub belts and the lap belts. They appear to be a nice product and should do the job. Downside is they are really expensive and it took a month for the products to deliver. I started a post in January that I will be finishing as I get the install going.

Belts, seats, and mounts are not an exact science. Typically I'm up for the challenge, but I am a new dad and finding the time is difficult so this complexity is a little frustrating.

Mine are mounted through the floor, using reinforcement plates by Sparco. Works like a champ.
