Redline or Mobil 1 for Willow Springs?

FWIW, a few years back I decided for myself to use Red Line and I called them for advice. At the time my car was for DD, lots of AutoX and a few track days. They were totally resolute that the right (Red Line) oil for a LS3 is 5w-30 in most all situations shy of a true race car using race oil.

I am a mobile fan. Use it in my Porsche and vette. I use Mobil racing 0-50 in the vette. And speaking of zddp, it has a ppm of 1850 ;-)

Many engine builders, Katech, Kevin Fisher, etc. recommend Mobil 1 at a specific viscosity. I personally use Amsoil and Mobil 1!

I have been running M1 10W30 in my stock LS6 since 2004. 5 or 6 track events per year with annual oil changes (about 3k to 5k miles). I put 7 quarts in and usually do not have to add more than a half quart during the year. Sessions are usually 20 minutes or so and I don't buzz the engine at redline for long. I usually short shift to 4th at the entrance to the carousel at Road America and exit at 80-90 MPH depending on tires and outside temperatures. Just another opinion or data point.

Melting Slicks
It does not test the oils ability to resist shear as temp rises and at a constant high temp(like 280-300 degrees), which is it's ability to protect as temp rises and at sustained higher temps.
Tests like that are smoke and mirrors in my opinion.

Guess this guy agrees.
I wish he would provide an easy to read ranking WITHOUT his preferred additives.
Thanks!

Has anyone tried anything in a DI LT1? I'm looking at a C7 Z51 setup and am trying to figure out what to run. I am pretty hard on cars so I don't really feel like blowing up a new engine.

AND keep on the down low just in case. Misspell your name on results sheets

I did a lot of research on this once... Here's some things that stuck with me and lead to my decision to switch to Redline 0W-40
1. Mobil 1 looses viscosity overtime and due to high oil temps, Redline does not.
2. Bondurant does not use Mobil 1 5w-30 due to several failures. GM engineers recommended they switch to Mobil 1 15W-50 due to elevated oil temps during track use.
3. My conclusion was Mobil 1 5w-30 is good for street use. At the track, elevated temperatures and poor factory oil control during high lateral g call for a more robust oil and that's were Redline fits the bill.

#1.All oils lose viscosity due to shearing and heat, ALL OF THEM.
#2.No Corvette should ever have 5w-30 in it for track use. Minimum of 0-40 for track use.
#1 is a fact, #2 is my opinion.
