C7 Z51 autocross tires
Is anyone using a tire besides the OEM Michelin's?
I want to stay in SS class but so far I am not seeing much choice in tires/wheels.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

Rival

R-S3
Front, 245/40-19, tall
Rear, 285/35-20, tall
Drop down to the 275/35-19 rear tire size and that gets the Star Spec, R-S3 in normal diameter, and the RE-71R. And all of those are autocross compounds designed for quick warm-up.
I would go with the tall 19/20 R-S3 but use 7mm spacers with the wheels to mitigate the higher center-of-gravity

Understand, it looks like I will have to go +/- 1 to get something.
Thanks for the info!
Will the base model wheels fit over my Z51 brakes? Just curious.

Interesting, I had heard they would not fit.
A set of them for autocross would be a good option.
I'm really interested to hear how they fit once you get them on.

The Michelin owned C7 Z51 test car has been running at the SCCA autocrosses held at Michelin Proving Grounds in SC and has been doing VERY well on the OEM PSS tires. Like nearly top pax in a competitive region. Of course the driver is a professional tire tester but it shows that the tires don't really hold the car back from good results. Michelin and GM did a pretty good job tuning those tires and the C7's suspension to work well together.

OEM Pilot Super Sports are bespoke tires. And yes they rock, but not all PSS's are the same, in fact none are. And there are bespoke PSS's for a lot of cars not just the C7.

Sam,
I appreciate you chiming in on this. I have heard nothing but good things about you and your advice. What tire pressures would you recommend using with the stock Michelin's on my C7 Z51 with Magnetic ride? Do you have any other recommendations to improve my setup in the SS class?
Thanks,
Paul

Seems like the Michelin Pilot Super Sport was made in just about every size and shape I considered for the C6. I've been very happy with this tire for autocross. There are a couple other modded C5Z's and C6's running the BFG Rivals and I've been toe to toe with them in a stock 05' with the PSS

I have been somewhat competitive in the Houston region on OEM tires still, but tend to come in around 20-25th in PAX (typically 120-140 drivers per event). Admittedly, I am nowhere close to the car/tires limits at this point (the darn weak link between the steering wheel and the seat...)
I am close to needing a new set of tires, and am going back and forth between the RS3 Ver2 and a new set of the PSS. I'd really be interested if anyone has any experience with the RS3's on a the C7 relative to the PSS.
For pressures, I have been running 37-38 front and 34-35 rear (both hot pressures). I also noticed that the right tire tends to heat up much quicker than the left. I definitely needed a sprayer last summer and probably will starting with the next event here.
