One can only hope that a track version of the Z06 will come...
No A/C, No radio, No rear seat...comes with carbon fiber rims shaving 13# per corner.

I don't think the demographics were right for the Z/28...
If Ford can do it with the Mustang and make a profit (or at least break even) then there is no reason in the world GM can't do it for the Corvette. More people actually take their Corvette's to a track than Camaro owners...at least to road courses that is.
I expect GM could shave ~300# off the curb weight of the Z07 pretty easy...

The biggest downside to a stripped out, track only beast is that they tend to be much more $$$ than the street oriented cars. So if GM do build a Corvette version, you'd likely end up with a limited run car that will do everything you ever wanted out of a street car for the track, but at a cost of probably $150k+, and a small number built, they'll all be bought up by rich collectors and only a handfull will ever see a race track! That's why I don't have a 911 GT3, 99% of the used ones you see have >10k miles, showroom condition, never tracked, and nearly new price tag! Of course the flip side is the Z28, that kinda flopped sales wise, but is a good car. People still see a Camaro and won't pay Corvette price for it!

No AC? Even the GT3 gets AC! Come on Ford you don't need to take away everything to make a track car. I think any c6 Z06 driver need not worry!
Also what's this aero package that they talk about? A rear wing isn't an aero package!

Drifting
Did you miss the bits about the splitter at the front, the undertray/diffuser, venting hot high pressure air from the engine bay, etc?

Melting Slicks
Yeah, and did you miss that Ford redesigned the WHOLE front half of the car compared to the standard Mustang. A bit more than JUST a rear wing.

Here are the cars that don't have a VIN number:

And this is the point i was trying to make, what's the purpose of the GT350r then? Is it really a trackday only car or just a sales gimmick? If its a tack day car where is the cage and massive weight loss thanks to stripping out all the nice to haves (ie AC, carpet, etc)?
These track orientated cars that OEMs are selling at the moment p!ss me off! You pay a huge premium for them but never seen any of the real benefit. If I wanted a track day only car I would buy a race car and a trailer.

I have a race car and a trailer. That's the problem. Now I want a track car that I can drive to Sebring and back. I would also like a/c here in FL.
Forget about the Porsche GT3. Here in FL we've been invaded by the Porsche Cup cars They're unreal.
The Cup cars usually arrive via the big haulers and a full screw. A normal track day here is Fl usually means a dozen haulers in the paddock area. It's getting totally crazy.

To me, when I first read about this Mustang I thought "this is a copy of the Z/28" which is the Mustang's competitor. I felt like Ford was finally "listening." We all know Corvettes don't directly compete with Mustangs. The Z06 has always been a track focused vehicle.
I do agree that a factory stripped Corvette would be AWESOME. Rip that carpet, radio and all the unnecessary tech out, keeping the A/C since Corvette Racing does, and give it an N/A motor. But then, where would that leave the Z06?

The Z28 succeeded in it's capability but sales lagged because #1 it's a $75k+ Camaro and #2 it's heavier and more expensive than a C7 Z51 that could turn similar lap times with better tires and brake pads. If I had extra cash to purchase a Z28 I would do in a second, it is a special car built for Camaro enthusiasts. If I were to spend equal money of a Z28 (est $75k) and start with base C7 Z51 and use after market bolt-on parts to put together a car that is "consistently" seconds a lap faster with robust cooling for the car and factory AC for myself.
How much horsepower and/or weight reduction would it take for a base C7 Z51 to equal a C7 ZO6 around VIR or similar track?

There are the guys that like to drive it around town and take them to the track and thrash them. They like their GT cruiser...all the appointments, all the bells & whistles.
It is unfortunate...but when they strip the cars down like the GT350R, they are not able to sell them with title for street use. The cars would have to be re-certified by the DOT/EPA etc. and it would add massive amounts of money for such a limited run.
