Default Best Dash Camera for Auto X

I have only been doing Auto X for a few months now, but currently I am using my Samsung Galaxy S5 and my old Garmin windshield bracket. I works fine, but I really would like an actual camera that I could mount in other locations. I know GoPro seems to be the most popular, but I though I would see if there are others being used and what the pros and cons are.

By the way this is a very addicting event. I can't wait for the next event.

I have a Sony Action Cam that works well. Here's a video from it

My normal cam/vid shuts off from bumps in road racing so I'm in the market too. I just bought a Monoprice MHD 2.0 that I can leave in the car. I didn't want to pay a mint for video in case it gets broke so price was a big factor. After watching sample vids I found the quality to be fine for the price. I also wanted the vid to start with my gloves on so a large switch was important. There are a lot of options! I'll post sample vid later in the season.

I use a GoPro Hero 3 and love it. With the large suction cup you can essentially mount it anywhere inside or out. Neat to mount it at the sides as it allows you to see how close you're coming to the cones.

GoPro also came out with a cheap, no frills version if you don't need the absolute best picture quality and wireless capability.

I've borrowed my brother in laws go pro a couple times now and I'm amazed at the detail it captured. He mounts it to the bumper of his brz and it's even more clear, picks up all the patch work in the pavement.

I've used it enough times to know I need my own camera so I'm interested to hear what people recommend.

Also, does one camera may data overlay easier than another? It's the natural next step....

Last year I borrowed a friends Garmin Virb Elite. Video was good and it has built in GPS to record the track and speed. Also has on-board accelerometer for acceleration/braking and lateral G's.

Tried to borrow it for this coming weekends HPDE but she can't find it :-( As a result, I'll be back to the full size Canon GL2.

Something to note, I believe the GPS in these is 1HZ, which is sufficient for road course but not for autocross. Best bet is still to buy a stand alone 10 or 20HZ unit and just overlay the data afterwards.

I have a Go Pro 4 Black and a VBOX Sport

Combined with HPTuners logs you can get every conceivable piece of info you could want and lay it all over a 4K video that no one can play.

its hard to beat the gopro footage, it's good with the bumps and movement.

If you want a good CHEAP ($75) camera which can accommodate GPS....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131291243407

It actually does a great job of capturing video.
It does start recording when you plug it in, so I merely plug it in
to the cigarette lighter when I want it to start, and then unplug it
when I want it to stop.

Here's a video from it from last Saturday with my wife driving.
