So is the c6z51 a 2 piston slider, just bigger than c6 base & bigger rotor than the 12.8"?

Yes, the C6 Z51 and C6 base calipers (fronts) are the same. More robust design on front than C5 to help resist spreading but the C6 base and C6 Z51 calipers and 2 pistons the same size. The Z51 front discs are larger diameter 13.38" I think and base front 12.8. The base and Z51 rear calipers same physical size but Z51 has smaller piston size,,,still single piston rears, rotor diameter 13" Z51 and base 12". Again maybe a little rusty on measurements but that pretty much sums it up.

I'm selling a Wilwood SL6R setup minus the lines and brackets. Check it out.

Here is what I ordered.

This is one axle change

c6 base calipers $200
Centric premium c6 base rotors $100
Hawk street/race pads $150.

All on Amazon free shipping

So now I am having second thoughts. If I keep the calipers (C6 base/z51 = same) and buy the z51 brackets & z51 13.xxx" rotors, then I have without argument increased my front brake power over the c5z stock. Still kept cost down & weight down, & still a good autox setup (not track) and still pretty good balance f/r.

Anyone have GM #'s for the brackets & rotors?

In between events I could lose the brackets & throw the smaller rotors back on & use up old brake pads street driving.

Saw the brackets on ebay for 239 (f/r) new. That the best price around? $80 each MAM.

Pads any thicker on c6?

The larger rotor should give the caliper/pad additional leverage on the wheel and therefore additional brake capacity. FWIW, I've been eying this thread and have the C6 caliper/Z51 rotor planned for track use next year.

I saw the c6z06 ones on a c5z last sunday and while impressive, they just seem like "too much" to me. My little car only has 405hp.

I'm hoping they're "too much". I'd entered One Lap this year but had to bail due to work... now the plan is to run next year. The only piece of the car that has me at all worried are the brakes. Larger rotors and a more robust caliper design should address that for me.

If your main driving is street / auto-x, then that setup will be great. The stock brakes on these cars are strong with the right pads. Only issue I had is that the pads melt down / taper after a couple hours of lapping the track. That's what made me go aftermarket with a thicker pad. I have some leftover track pads for front and rear C5 Z06 brake calipers along with titanium brake heat shields if interested. Some pads still new in box, others with some use. Pads include Hawk HP+ (street / track hybrid), Carbotech XP-10 (track), and Carbotech RP2 (track endurance).

According to c5racer.com it looks like the brackets are same number for each side both front and rear.

Increased brake leverage and improved ability to dissipate heat with larger rotors works well in HPDE application. Never autocrossed, do you need increased brake force beyond what a more aggressive pad can provide?

C6 pads (base and Z51) same template and thickness as all C5 pads.

Based on what I've heard (and read) the C6z setup will cost notably more on pads, slightly more on rotors while not offering a large increase in stopping power. Initial purchase and consumable replacements along with increased performance seem to favor C6 Z51 components.

I have got myself confused with the change from c6 base to c6z51, so in one place can one of you guys give me the gm part numbers?

13.4" rotors (same l/r)...

brackets (should be 88964166 same l/r)

c6 base/z51 calipers (base & z51 should be same caliper but different l/r)

pads gm orig part just to cross reference.

Thanks! Sorry I'm confused.

I ordered calipers 172-2297 and 172-2297 guess those are wrong?

I tried on gmparts direct but they don't refer to z51?

Those are the correct caliper, same part # for left and right. Base and Z51 caliper are exactly the same. Difference between C5 and C6 caliper is C6 more rigid and more resistant to spread. Look at pictures of C6 and C5 and you can see the additional ribs (more metal). The bracket is Z51 specific to locate the same caliper outwards to accomodate Z51 specific rotors.

Z51 part numbers below

89060328 Front Rotor
89060329 Rear Rotor
88964166 Front Bracket
88964167 Rear Bracket

For reference below is link to old thread with part numbers

As i don't see any reason to shift the brake bias forward, it is a good idea imo to stick with the c5 rear calipers, or base c6 i guess, to get the bigger rear piston and keep as much bias back as possible. It is only like 2% difference i think, but no reason to move it forward.

Here's what I have for the C6 Z51 front parts.....
Rotors - 89060328 - both sides the same number
Caliper Bracket - 88964166 - both sides same number
Calipers - 19208033 & 19208034
Seems like a pretty effective upgrade for a really low overall cost and plenty of easy parts availability!!

I'd just like to add here that the stock Z51 rotors are NOT ok for track use. I've cracked two sets of them. Auto-X is probably fine, but if you run them on the track for extended sessions (45+ min) they will crack around the holes from heat fatigue. Blanks are probably better to be honest, I think the holes weaken the structure somehow.

Do those caliper #'s , by chance, get you a red instead of dark grey caliper. Different from the ones I used, unless they change the numbers for different model years?

I type that number into Amazon & I get the one that I used, 172-2296 and 172-2297 as a result.

froggy...not positive, but, I'm pretty sure they're the dark grey.
I've done most of my searches referencing a 2010 C6 Z51.
