Default TPMS Re-learn

So I got new rims and new sensors and wondering how you go about re-learning them. My car thinks all four tires are flat so currently in max speed 55 mode.

I saw a thread elsewhere where there was a tool you can buy at tire rack but doesn't look like they carry it anymore. So does that mean I have to take it to a dealer? Car is a 2006 Z51. Thanks

You need to research the type of TPMS you have, then find the tool that does a reset. When I started autocross I built two sets of tires both with TPMS and found a tool that does the reset. Now when I switch from street wheels to autocross I reset the TPMS in the car. Tool cost me somewhere between 45 and 60 bucks but I forget exactly. My car is a 2006 and both sets of sensors are stock. Good luck.

I set mine (2000) with just a magnet. You need to wake the sensor first by driving the car. I set mine before they were mounted in the rims and had to shake each sensor to wake it up.

If you're not swapping wheels regularly, there's really no need to own a tool. Just swing into a dealership or tire place and ask for a reset. I've done just that twice and there was no charge since it only takes a couple minutes to do.

C5s you can use a magnet but C6 needs a tool. I don't remember where I got. One but I would check Rock Auto and see if they sell one. I got one back in 2007 and it was $80 then.

Check Amazon. They have a Kent Moore tool for about $80.

Yes I understand they are GM but do you know for sure that they are the same pn for your model year car. keep in mind that the TPMS systems changed periodically and with each change some systems may not be compatible. For example if they put sensors in your 2006 that are for a 2010 car your car may not recognize them.

The tool I have is a EL-50448 from Orange Electronics is also shows the number OEC-T5. This is for my 2006 C6 Coupe. I think there is also a phone number on the back, 1888-407-8767. Hope this helps.

Mike

Some sensors will learn by letting air out, I have three sets of tires and wheels, 2 sets need the tool to learn, one set will only learn with air pressure change.

Where do you live? If you are near Orange County, CA you are welcome to come by and use mine. I purchased mine from Tire rack about five years ago.
