Test of Seibon Carbon 2nd gen. C6 vented WH-style hood

Amazing. The hood looks flawless and it's literally sold out everywhere in the US. Seibon has every dealer on a 8-10 week wait. I called every Seibon dealer that day with no luck. Smh

Okay sweet. Any high mph passes? Over 120? I ordered mine from Seibon directly and the employee I was dealing with (I forgot his name) highly suggested hood pins so I got them. But if I don't need them I will cancel them while I wait another 6-7 weeks😂😂😂. What do you guys think? Hood pins or no hood pins?

120 is only 3rd gear Will be at 155 this weekend and 175 a few after that.
There is no provision on the hood for pins. No holes, no reinforced pad areas ext. Hood and inner frame is designed for factory hinges at the front using factory mounting hardware.
That little blurb about pins is for the race parts with no factory provisions & hinging back not fwd. like a C6.

Back from warm not hot day at Sebring.
Hood worked just as expected. Data logged & ambient temp corrected water and oil temperatures range around 8 degrees cooler than previous vented hood.
Expected due to larger vent area and design.
Speeds up to 157 its still in place. Moves up and down about same amount at 145 as it does 65 just from bumps. Daytona will give a better indication on that.
Hard to say if car was more aerodynamically planted even though my lap times improved quite a bit. However I'm on a new set of Continental scrubs and softened rear sway bar since last outing.

i forget his name but there is a top speed c5 guy with the tracspec vents who doesn't seem to be having any mph headwind from the vents and I talked to tracspec and they also have not seen any mph loss from any of their standing mile or 1/2mile customers, will be interested to see what your data shows for this hood with more air flow.

The top speed on this car is well in excess of 200 MPH which I will never see in Florida. Aside from returning to the stock hood, I would also remove my splitter and spoiler for a true top speed run.
I switch out tire sizes all the time. I go from 685 to 710 to 705 on the rear depending on availability. With 685"s I use 5th at Sebring, with 710's I don't.
Pure physics of it, increasing cooling and downforce will increase drag. I have no problem increasing drag and loosing a few MPH, if it means better cooling.
Standing mile or 1/2 mile is not top speed, took me 4 miles to top end terminal and then a "bunch" to slow down. The only guy I have seen post about top speeds with Trackspec vents did it on a public road. So I have to question the validity of the data as I did in my TS installation post.

IMHO street use does not need extra cooling, I ended up putting screen on grill to restrict air, bug and FOD intake due to it turning into a big vacuum. Off season next year will be using stock hood on street.
The stock hood I never noticed move, however you cant really see the stock top like you can the higher vented hood and never really looked? The Seibon does move say 3/8-1/2" up and down near the back vent at speed. Does not seem to be anything other than slight flexing across width, more bump induced than air. I am running 800lb coilovers at Sebring, so its a bit stiff.

I contacted Seibon and they are currently out of stock and the ETA looks like maybe 6 to 8 weeks. They are taking names without a deposit and you can always opt out when it comes in.
They do suggest that hood pins be used even though it accepts the stock hood latch.
Has anyone used Aerocatch hood pins before?

Is the hood flexible at speed? Is this why the manufacturer recommends hood pins? I'd like to see some video of the hood at say 140 to 150mph.

Seibon WH hood worked fantastic on track. No flex and no pins needed.
My video camera is mounted to low on harness bar to catch view of hood.
Going to miss Daytona, working on a brake issue.

Construction:
Black fiberglass/carbon fiber cloth (not chop) w the top surface having very nice appearing wet carbon overlay. Bonded to a black fiberglass/carbon support frame holding threaded inserts in the inner frame. Stock C6Z hood is a plastic & chop fiberglass matrix.
Version 2 {Release date July 2015} now accepts the factory hardware for mounting.
We can thank dbratten who in this thread https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...6-wh-hood.html helped Julio at Seibon revise and improve the original copy.
Attached to the lower surface is a silver thermal heat shield protecting the lower surface of the hood from the insane heat coming off headers.
Clearance on my Halltech intake is very good, lots of room for air to move.

Did your hood come with the thermotech heat barrier installed? If not, do you have any tips on installation? I just picked up this hood and it came without the thermotech, though they sent me a link to it on amazon and recommended that I install it. The strips are 24" x 48" and I'm a bit nervous that I'll butcher the install.
If it is like many tapes and wraps I have done it helps to have two people holding while you squeegee, a soft plastic or felt applicator and a plan. "Start from center and work out, & have multiple new razors handy". Will be a PITA due to vents but does it really matter if you have a wrinkle or 2 on the backside?
