Default Driving Shoes

Hey all,

Time for some decent driving shoes for HPDE stuff.

Your thoughts and experience please...

Thanks!

To be honest, I just get a nice pair of Puma's every year.

They have great stiff soles and are tight fitting so they do not move.

Work for me anyhow.

Anything built for the purpose is good. I used Sparco Race shoes for the last 3 seasons and they're great for $99. Bought the Alpinestar Tech 1Z this season and it's very awesome. Three times more awesome? Not quite.

I use G Force. Inexpensive and they do the job.

I've used G-Force, Racequip, Sparco, Puma, and regular tennis shoes. IMO, the Puma's are the best bang for the buck (they may still have a sale going on; I picked up some more for $40-ish shipped). If you need something with an SFI tag, I really liked the fit of my Sparcos but they fell apart within a season of use. G-Force and Racequip are both serviceable options but nothing particularly great.

Piloti shoes aren't real race shoes.

Make sure you try them on before you buy them. Shoes are like seats. They all sound good until you try to get in and out of them. Also, make sure they're fireproof.

The good part they last forever - unless you wear them around the paddock. I've had the same pair for 15 years. I never walk around in them. The shoes come off about the same time as the helmet and gloves.

I just got a pair of the sparco #77's as my first driving shoes. I have only run one event with them but like them compared to the lightweight new balance running shoes I was using. They were $80.

After conflicts with Tenny-runners hitting the throttle when braking my '15 Z06, decided to try a Racing shoe. I have a wide foot and bought Pumas. They are at least 1/2" narrower on the sole and 3/4" narrower on the heel. No more brake/throttle conflict, they fit well after break-in AND are very comfortable. Good luck.

Wrong, they run the whole gamut of what you might want/need. You pick your price point.

This is what I've been wearing for the last 8 years. Wrestling shoes from Sports Authority. $36-$50

They are super cheap and super lite and "feel" like racing shoes. They give great feedback. Excellent for DE events.

i HAVE HAD SEVERAL SETS OF VERY HARD (p.....) SHOES AS GIFTS AT RACES. I recommend Simpson driving shoes, which are very soft. They are worthless for walking, but they are GREAT for driving!
