New trailer quetion
Just recently purchased a Featherlite trailer. Driver's door will not clear tires. Want to install 2x lumber to raise car. Do I need to purchase 2x12 in order for rear tires to rest completely on the board. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a pair of "Trailer Mates" made by Race Ramps. These ramps will raise the front of the car about 3" once the front wheels are in the depressions. They're pricey, but they don't need to be attached to the trailer floor and they only weigh about 4 lbs each. They can be hung up when not in use.
I use these in my enclosed trailer that hauls my '87 autocross car. The only thing I had to add so that I could get the driver's door to open over the 9" tall fenders were two pieces of 1x12 about 10" long that I screwed down to the deck where the rear tires sit with the car spotted in the trailer. I occasionally haul my lowered 2002 coupe and the Trailer Mates work great with that car too.

2 x 2x8's with a 2x4 as a bump stop so i know where the car belongs. Also make sure to raise the wood off the deck floor with some aluminum stock. otherwise you will rot your pressure treated lumber

The winch will save the clutch but a few boards are a lot cheaper.
You really don't have to fasten the boards down. Just lay them on the tire's path on the driver's side and drive onto the trailer. The car will hold them in place. When you are home and the trailer is parked put the boards in the garage. I used to do that when I was renting a trailer from a local trailer shop. Worked fine.

Thanks to all for the very useful info. Like the "Trailer Mates" and the winch, but economics will play a major role in the decision. Looks like getting several 2x's is the best idea now. Again, many thanks to all for the help.

If you set your bump stops so that the door opens between the tires, you can get in and out without any extra lumber being attached to the trailer. I have the Featherlite 3110 17' trailer and my Z is lowered quite a bit. You won't be able to open the door full open, but plenty wide enough for access.

Last C5, put the car on the trailer yesterday and discovered just what you posted. Surprised me as my car sits low. Still thinking about using the 2x's for more access. Thanks for posting this. Will be beneficial to future trailer owners.

I typically just remove my fender on the trailer when I load my Corvette. However, I may implement some of the ideas mentioned here as it would be easier than dealing with the fender each time.

Winch as stated above. Aside from your door issue you will be happy to have one if your car ever does not move on it's own. No reason a trailer should ever be without a winch.

It does not have a raised deck. Just the standard 3110 model that is 17'6" long.
Trackboss, the winch will be my next investment. Hopefully, nothing will happen before I get the winch.
