Default Oil cooler

Want to try a new oil cooler on my car. Can anyone suggest a good one to try, and a good source? Saw 250 degree oil on track at roebling road this past weekend. Water temp stayed at 205. Thanks for any help. Jerry

Jerry, if I only saw 250 I would be a happy camper.

This thread may help.

Agree with 250. If it was a stable 250 and not constantly rising that is more than reasonable. I hit 300 on my 89. Then I back off. That is with a small cooler too. And I had my oil tested by the lab and they said it would be good for another track day. I was using Mobile one full synth 10w-40.

*sorry for not addressing the question and butting an opinion. I hate when people do that.

Hey Jerry - I had hoped to make it to Roebling for that event, but things just didn't work out. 250* oil temp is nothing to be concerned about.
See you soon.

Have yet to install / track it, but have read good things.
Hope this helps.

Check out Doug Rippie Motorsports. They have engine oil cooler kits that do a great job. Have used them on my track cars for the past 10 years.

If you have a C5, a Ron Davis or DeWitts radiator with an engine oil cooler seems to be a common option. I do not have one, but I plan to go this route as one of my winter projects.

I agree with the above posts, 250 is nothing to be concerned with. My car will hit 280 in almost every session. At 280 I'll begin short shifting to keep the temp in the 270's and then crank it up again.

X2. I installed one with my new 383 stroker and my temps never got over 255 in 93 degree heat at Limerock.

OK guys, thanks for all the help. sounds like I was concerned over nothing. Jim Painter said the same thing, and he should know! I will probably change the cooler when I replace the engine just to keep any contaminents from the new engine. Jerry

Recent track day at Fontana, 105* day with the DeWitts radiator and integrated EOC I saw low 260s. Although not terrible it made me think about venting the hood in an attempt to drop another 10*.

Hope this helps,

Send that old oil cooler to me so I can use it on one of my other vehicles like my vw dunebuggy. Throwing away a oil cooler? You must be pretty wealthy. But seriously ill take it if you upgrade and don't want it....

Jerry,

I agree with above, 250* is no biggie.

FYI - this is the one I have on my racecar:
