Recommended oil temp before going full throttle?
I know this question varies depending on your oil and the viscosity but Seeing as water/coolant heats up much quicker than oil what is the magic number you go off of? I'm running 0w-40 Mobil
For those who don't want to go through the whole thread the general consensus is 150 F

I'm also running 0-40 Mobil 1 in my track car. I usually try to let the oil temp get to about 170 degrees before I go full throttle. It will be interesting to me also to find out what temp people are using for a go for it point.

I'm also running 0-40; once the oil hits 150 I'm good. It doesn't take long for it to go up from there. Under 150 though I'm pretty careful and try to keep under 3,000 RPM.

150 here, also, but the time to that temp should be considered. I want to know that the full engine has had time to soak up the temp to that point. In other words, you can get some of the engine up to temp but if you do it too fast with a high HP, high compression engine the rest may not be at that point. I believe this probably had a lot to do with the old L98 heads 'scrubbing' and leading to gasket failure. The Al heads had a different expansion coefficient than the iron block; too fast, too great a difference.

I use 150 ish and that's street driving. So it's easy driving but I still get to 4k rpms pretty easy otherwise I feel like I'm just lugging around. My Blackstone tests are all fine. Mine comes up to 150 in about 2 miles. Full disclosure I don't live in Fargo, ND.
I must be in the minority but I give mine full throttle every time I drive it.
The engine seems to be ok with it.
180 autox/track because there I have the time to warm it up.

I remember years ago reading somewhere the number was 160 degrees, and for over twenty years I have practiced that with no issues, so it must be right or close to it.?? I run 0/40 mostly and sometimes 15/50 for track in the LS7 and notice the oil pressure normalizes starting at around 160 .

Many track events in the upper midwest (wisc, mn, etc.) begin the day in the 40s for air temp. Getting the oil to 150 takes some hard use. On the highway it won't even get to 150 on cool days. On cold track days, 130 and its go time for me. On the street I try to wait for 150.

I always warm up to 160 before going full throttle to keep oil pressure reasonable, but it looks like I am more conservative than most. Bottom line, watch your OP when you hit the gas at low temps. If you are comfortable with that level, have at it.

My '02 has a Vortec supercharger and I always wait until oil temp hits at least 150 before any heavy or WOT operation. Although I use Mobil-1 5W-30, it's the supercharger bearings that are the concern. The line that feeds the blower has a pretty small diameter so I want to make sure the oil will flow easily thru it.

I use the 15w-50 Mobil 1 as required by GM for 2015 Z06s (track use indication). Since it is fairly thick I wait till 160*.
In 70* ambient it takes the engine about 8 minutes to get coolant up to 163* (removing the rev limiter indication) and about 16 minutes to get the oil to 160*. By that time the coolant is stabilized at 190*.
To note, GM does not seem to care about oil temps when triggering the rev. limiter indication. It's always based on the coolant reaching 163*.

I usually wait until the oil is at 150. I let the car idle until it gets up to that temp and then head out once the session starts. By the time I am done with my warm up lap the oil temp is above 200 and then I get on it.
