Speaking of SM - they can be surprisingly fast! Depends on the track....

Daytona, not so much....a small/tight road course (i.e. - MSR Cresson), you bet!!

Sebring SM record is something like a 2:32. Not many guys can run under that on street tires much less R compounds.

Many show up thinking they are fast end up closer to 2:40+.

Yes there are a lot of very fast guys here that can run faster. I have seen sub 2:20 runs by other guys on the forum.

But since this is the internet & I can do it on a Playstation in 2:16, I guess that is how fast my car can do it.

SM records are a good solid goal at many tracks. Daytona is an exception to most things.

If you are a novice(as the OP seems to be) or with limited track time, if you can get withing 2-3 seconds of a Spec Miata track record at places such as Barber(1:45) you are a king dingaling.

EDIT

I got a $100 says you can't run a 1:30 at Barber, that's 15 seconds faster than the SM record there. Strap in tight................The NASA TTU/TTR record there is a 1:28.6, and that's F'n rollin there.(Unless you're Reese *** and own MTI).

yes, I think a good SM time would be a good goal for group 1-2 driver with street tires to get close too, again i was jokingly taking about my car with what I have in it.
EDIT

Why would I think my car which is under ST1/TT1 rules would be as fast as a TTU car record lap time, Looks like our own heavychevy on this forum here holds the TT1 record at Barber at a 1:31.8 in his Porsche turbo, so after I learned the track I would hope to get down close to that, which is about the same delta from 1:45.xx as I'm from the SM on miller outer loop being a longer track.
Ok enough about SMs on this poor guys thread who was just looking for a little direction to make his car better on a roadcourse.

The interesting item is that this same thread occurs over on the Porsche forums. Someone wants to turn their Porsche into a race car and fifty people tell them to go Miata.

I would rather have my ***** flattened with a Gallagher like mallet than track a Miata, even the name oozes gayness.

I guess I'd get in trouble for posting a photo, but I could probably PM one to you.
