you could get anything, but the bell housing is a very integrated part of the car. it holds the oil tank and is machined to take that engine. The trans holds the rear suspension. your stuck using it. it would be easier to get the car and add a turbo. 300hp would be very easy with a small turbo on that engine. you already have a AEM ecu. all you would need to do is literally add the turbo and get it tuned.

The trans is only rated to 185lb/ft of tq, I'd be leery of asking for much more out of the engine given that the transaxle is probably the most expensive part on the car.

Right. The custom bell (it's the bulk of the engine mount) along with the lightweight torque rating of the transaxle really discourages swapping out the drivetrain.
Not that the car needs to have more power, really. I just don't need or want a locked-out spec racer. I just want something safer and still fun for track days.
