I'm very thankful to be apart of this project ( i make the seats)
I just wanted to get people's opinion on this car.
basically' it's a tube frame prototype that is being built by elan (same basic company as Panoz and Delta wing) it retails for 65k same price as newish c6z

I can tell you I want one! Should be a very quick car with the operating cost of a Miata.
Ready to see some real world reviews from owners but I'm aiming to buy one in the next 5 years.
My mind can't help but wonder what one would be like with a k series Honda motor in it though. It would make it a fun tt weapon.

it's corvette wide. pouring the seats is a real pita because i need to lean over the side pods. for a formula car it's humungus.

I thought I saw a recent photo of Randy Pobst standing beside a pair of these? Always interesting to read or watch his take on a track car.

I was all up in this thing at NJMP with NASA. Almost plunked down the $500 for a session but thought that might be a bad idea. Elan guys were saying it's about 5 seconds faster than a Porsche cup car. And that $65K is if YOU put it together. Figure another $8-10K if you want the car to be driveable when you get it. Still a lot of performance for the money, with low operating costs (hopefully).

it uses a very stock engine from a 2006-2015 mx-5. gear box is from a formula racing car. it's non computer controlled sequential. very simple to work on and maintain.
i did talk to the elan guys they left room in the engine bay for the eco boost twin turbo v6

2.0 Mazda MZR engine with dry sump, 185hp. Sealed, no mods allowed. Gearbox is a 6 speed sequential F3 unit by Sedev in France.
Elan guys were talking 8000-10000 miles on track before anything would need to be serviced.

Sign me up. A car that runs tt1/ttu speeds on tires that are 900 a set. I'll take one in orange.
Thing comes with real deal suspension as well. MCS doubles.
From what I understand the cars do require you to assemble them for the 65k price, but can be assembled by mostly tools any racer would have in the garage anyway. I heard 120 hours of assembly.
A podcast I listen to had the Nasa guys on talking about the car. Here's the link.

It is an interesting concept, but for the less money I have a car that can be serviced at any dealership, fenders replaced within a few days, and lap times that are way faster than what are proposed. Add to that, I can slap in a passenger seat and take family, friends, and students for a ride-along.
I wish the initial investors luck. It won't be me.

You need to be looking at ST1 and SU lap times. $65k plus $8-10k assembly is more than ST1 Corvette money. I could put in a new, reliable engine with another 200hp and still have less in my setup.

That's awesome. After replacing nearly every piece in my car I'm definitely over $65K, so to me the Elan seems like a bargain! I've also had quite a few laps in an F3 car in France, so I now how much fun a car this light with real downforce can be. If anyone wants to trade me their Elan NP for my Vette just say the word!!

I'm just saying what the Elan guys told us at NJMP. I too had a hard time believing that claim as well. But guys were getting in it and ripping 1:27s in it within 20 minutes. That a real fast guy could go 10 seconds faster than that I find hard to believe. My best lap that weekend was 1:26.9 in the race and I won.
