Autox tire for C5 ZO6
Im trying to keep it simple and run the stock zo6 c5 wheels but I just cant find any tires with 200 tw that will work with 17-18 wheels. I see many people like the Pilot SS tires but I see they are a 300 tw rating. Are these tires that good with that wear rating.

your not going to find any good options in the OEM sizes. I recently went through this. and here is what I found. assuming you are playing in A street class.
THE setup to win on is.
1) run base rears in the front. you can legally go up or down an inch in diameter. This is an expensive option. but its what the national level winners are running. I plan to get this setup soon and just run it for big events. those back tires are $350 each!
BFG Rival S, F 18x9.5 with 275/35-18 and R 18x10.5 with 315/30-18
$1282 on tirerack
(and you can get a 255/40-17 rival S for the front 17" wheel)
2) The closest option to stock sizes to run on is the Nitto NT05. however, its not the fastest tires around from all the tire comparisons ive seen and read.
Nitto NT05, F 275/40-17 and R 295/35-18
$800 shipped on discount tire direct
3) ALL other options are
F 255/40-17 and R 275/35-18
the good thing is that most of the extreme performance tires run a little wide. ive ran the hankook RS3's in those sizes, and they were just as big as the OEM size PS2's I replaced.
options are on tire rack...
Bstone Re71R $932
Dunlop ZII star spec $988 (rear is a 285/35-18)
Hankook RS3 $800
Toyo R1R $844
4) you can get the falken azenis in
F 275/40-17 and R 315/30-18 for $1190 on DTD. this would probably be a really good option.
5) not a 200 TWR option. but cheap for practice, or if you dont care about classing. its a 140 TWR, so you would have to run SSR. but the federal 595 RSR. comes in 255/40-17 and 285/30-18 (shorter rear about same height as front, helps gearing a bit). I got a whole set of these for $600 shipped from online tires.com I plan to run them locally and daily drive on them and save the BFG's for when it counts.
hope that helps.

The RS3's were the top tire in A Street in 2014 provided they were the version 2 tire. This past year in 2015 the BFG Rival S was most popular in A Street at Nationals. Many think that the Bridgestone RE-71R, even in the smaller size were as good or better then the BFG's but... There are rumblings of new bigger sizes for the RE-71R in 2016 and possibly a compound tweak to the Rival S, but that is just what I have read.
The Nitto's are pretty far down the list of tires that would be considered good autocross tires. The Falkens used to be a really good autocross tire back in 2007 or so... Neither one of these tires would be considered very competitive right now.

as others have said, besides the Rival S or RE71 which are both huge leaps faster than everything else the RS3's are really a pretty good tire.

I am interested to hear more about compound or size changes for the Rival S and RE-71R. Were did you read this?

I'm running 315/30-18 bfg rival s's all around on c5 z06 rear wheels. 18x10.5
I really like this setup. Way better than the nitto nt05's I was running in the past. There are a few other local guys also running this same setup with success. The re71 are suppose to be just as good but I haven't tried those. Good luck
Cheers Mike
