C4 LT1 Hotcam upgrade - temp issues?
I am about to pull the trigger on upgrading my stock 93 LT1 with a GM Hotcam. The kit includes cam, LT4 valve springs , aluminum 1.6 roller rockers, and the GM extreme duty timing chain. I will probably also upgrade to LS7 lifters and hardened push rods. Will top it all off with a tune to raise redline to 6000 RPM.
The car is used primarily for HPDE, with occasional daily driver duty.
I have never had a cooling issue, with both water and oil temps behaving well in the stock set up. Will these planned upgrades change that?

Mine doesn't have a problem. Headers, HOT cam, 32# injectors, ported manifold/heads and 160 thermostat. I stays close to 160 temp even in traffic. With almost 150K on bottom end of '96 LT4 I still have 370+ HP and 350+ torque. I get 21 to 24 mpg. Although I have tracked it a few times, I prefer it as a DD. The C5Z is my track car.
BTW, after running 60K+ miles on the extreme duty chain I had occasion to pull the timing cover and found absolutely no wear on the cam chain. I dip the chains in a vat of oil before installation to avoid any dry start up on the links.

I have a LT4 "Hot Cam" in my ZZ4 with 1.6 roller rockers, and don't have any water temp issues at all at the track or in traffic. Don't have an oil temperature gage, but I haven't had any issues running Redline 20W-50 in it for years.
