Default Christmas Gift to Myself / New Race Car!

After racing my 63 SWC for the last 2 years I have now bought an SVRA C3 to go with it. This is the second C3 that Doug Rippie built in 1974 for himself. My good friend owns the first Rippie C3 that Steve Kline raced and after he wrecked that one he took over this car to run with. So Kline ended up in both of our C3's. Kind of cool.

First pic is how it looks today and the second is from when Kline raced it and probably similar to a paint scheme I will end up with but with stock L88 flares as it started out as a silver car when first raced. The third pic is of my SWC and the first Rippie C3. Filling up the stable! Great Christmas for sure and the modifications have already begun.

Beautiful car - please post pics of the progress during the modifications.

Will you run both at Indy?

Thanks, I will get some pics this week as the biggest immediate change is to get a safer seat in it. I'm loaning the car to my college roommate this year for him to get his competition license with us in Texas with CVAR. So my seat time in it this year will be limited but if I can figure a way to get it to Indy I would like to get it on the track there. The car went with Doug to Indy in 13. So we will see. This car will kill bugs faster than my 63 so I am eager to give it some track time!

Congrats! I've seen this exact car several times when Doug still had it and it's an amazing machine. Everything from the period-correct hand-painted numbers and amazing bodywork to the cage and related fab work is pure awesome. It's also fast as hell, so that helps Congrats, truly awesome piece of machinery and racing history that you've got there

Thanks guys. Here are some pics of lowering the seat as we have done with all the Vette's in our shop. Will add an aluminum pan to make up the difference from the fiberglass down to the mounting rails. I also had them raise the roll bar top cross bar to make more room for my helmet. Adding tie down hooks for easier loading in the trailer. Has to hit the track in February for my friends school so the bigger changes will have to wait until the Summer.

More pics as requested. One of the rear body mounts is broken which we think led to the hard top coming off at COTA in 14 I think. So the body was built to be removed and it's off to reconstruct the body mount. Also going to need some fuel cell work as it has a NASCAR filler which I want no part of. Has a huge 36 gallon cell which I will probably shrink as I am not a big enduro fan. Also want it protected better. That will wait for next summer.

The last pic is right before the top flew off, you can see the crack of opportunity

Congrats. I had been admiring that car on Racing Junk for some time. Glad to see it ended up in good hands.

We go racing in 3 weeks at TWS so prep on both of my cars is in process. Done with the 63 and in a day or so and we will be ready to head for Eagles Canyon for a test day next week with the 69. A weekend of final touches coming up for me. Looking forward to the first lap out in the new car!

Good luck. The car looks great. I saw it at Road America in 2013 when Doug brought it out for The Hawk. It's a great looking/sounding car.

No leaf spring Howard, it's a 5 link supposedly installed around 77 by Kline/Ardyski? Was told a Greenwood piece but not sure. It will be coming out to get back to the 72 book.
