Default No manufacturer make 285/295 size 200TW tires anymore?

Hello all,

I'm a bit surprised when I learned Hankook doesn't offer 285/35R18 in RS3 V2 anymore. BFG Rival ditched their 295 size ever since they started making Rival-S. And B-stone never offered size wider than 275 for 18" wheel selection.

So is 275/35R18 my only option? I'm really reluctant to run anything shorter than 25.6" OD.

I DD my 02 C5z and I'm still trying to make it work out for A-street.

any suggestion is much appreciated

you could consider running the Rival S in 315. seems to be the go to tire for most on here and its probably the quickest too. You would have to run a 255 front though.

How about Michelin Pilot Super Sports? They are 300 TW, but feel every bit as sticky to me as the PS2 at 200 TW.

And bump the front wheel up to an 18x9.5" and run the 275/35-18 Rival S in front (legal to do in A-Street).

Does this tire fit your needs? According to tire rack the overall diameter is 25.6"

Tire Race Link --> Bridgestone RE-11, 275/35R18, UTQG: 200 A A

When I get another set of wheels I plan on running these on my Grandsport.

Good info Luke.

Do you know if Bridgestone will be offering the RE71R in anything wider in the 35/18 series?

From some of my back to back testing I've done I would not be the least bit surprised if the 275 re71 is every bit as fast as the 315 rival or at least very close to the point that it would come down which tire you preferred the "feel" of (for me its the re71)

That said, Andy Hollis mentioned that a 285/30/18 re71 will be available 3/1/16 that would be the tire I'd be trying out. Given that a pair of 275 re71's mounted on 10.5's are nearly as wide as 295 Rivals I wouldn't be shocked if the 285 re71's are between the 295 and the 315 rivals width wise. (purely speculation on my part)

for posterity
Pair of 275 re71's mounted on 10.5 wheels and pair of 295 rival non S mounted on 10.5 wheels:

and said 275's on my car:

thanks for all of the input guys. I probably will pick up a pair 18x9.5 from base C5 and put them to the front. 275/35R18 might be my best choice right now

Will you need spacers for this setup? I think he base C5 rear has more offset.

Yes, a 4mm spacer is the minimum needed to get the offset to within the legal range for street.

Is it still rumored that 285/30/18 Re-71s are coming out 3/1/16? Those are going to fly off the shelves.

Per Andy Hollis it seems that yes, 3/1/16 there will be a 285/30/18 available to decimate all comers.

I guess it's now delayed to 4/1?

sounds like it, tirerack is taking pre-orders for them at this time though if you want to be one of the first to get them.

Won't the 285/30/18 be shorter than the 275/35R18? Any ABS worries due to running a shorter rear than front?

There would be some ABS worries with shorter rears. In this case I assumed for track use that you'd run a 285 square tire combo just like running the 275 square combo.

Can you explain why? I'll be running the 285/30 on the rear of a staggered setup and was interested in the potential drawbacks.

The C5 abs system works best with larger rear diameter tires but has enough tolerance to work perfectly with square tires as well. Running smaller rear tires than fronts goes outside the ABS systems capabilities.

I haven't experienced it myself as I always run square or larger rear than front. So you'll have to do some more searching on the forums to find more specifics but that's what I recall off the top of my head.
