295/30/18 RE-71r

Melting Slicks
Hasn't the RE-71R offering for the Japanese market always had more sizes available than what is offered in the US?

I'd like 285/30/18 for STU class. Slight shorter diameter should mean better acceleration for us C5 STU guys.
AWD is getting 265's in 2016, up from 245's in 2015. With only 275's available, that closes the gap quite a bit.

From talking with someone In the know, the 285/30-18 is slated for a march 1st release here in the states. Bridgestone doesn't feel the demand is high enough to release the 295 here in the states as well.

Hmmm although I'm in Japan for work presently, wonder if I could track down and send myself home a set of 295 re71s.

That's sad, from my back to back testing (your mileage may vary) on a couple different surfaces the 275 re71's were scary close in lap times to the 315 rival S, with rivals ultimately being just a hair faster.. if we had 295 re71's in the states I'd switch and never look back as I like the feel of the RE's better.

Edit #1 And im right there with you on feel of tire. I like the re71r, im currently running them on the front and the 315 Rival S on the rear. It will be interesting when the 285/30-18 comes out in march, its slightly shorter but has an additional 13mm of tread width.
Edit #2 Ive also thought about going to a 19in rear wheel in order to get the 305. That would allow for a 285/305 combo on Re71r's. Not sure if the additional weight will out weigh the wider tire or vice versa.

You probably could, the real question is "would whatever racing series im running allow me to run tires that arent available in the U.S. in the size that im running?"

regarding number 2 the general consensus on the miata forum was that width > weight with regards to wheels and tires. Granted that's not quite apples to bannanas but I find the vettes have enough power to haul themselves around so that should somewhat transfer here.
I'm considering trying the 305 square as an alternative to the 335/315 rival S combo.
