2016 Daytona Rolex 24 - Spoiler Alert
No spoliers yet, just wanted to get this thread started in prep for the weekend. Qualifying about to start is in the rain, so not sure we'll have a true read on performance from qualifying. Corvettes seemed to be mid-pack first 2 wet practices.
I'll post qualifying results in a few when it happens.

GTD finished qualifying. Rain got heavier for GTLM, track was very wet and the session ended up red flaged before the 10 minute minimum due to incidents. They extended qualifying to get in minimum time (which is unusual), but each car really only got 3 or so flying laps.
Qualifying results:
1 - 911 Porsche 2:01.408
2 - 912 Porsche
3 - 100 BMW
4 - 68 Ferrari
5 - 62 Ferrao
6 - 25 BMW
7 - 4 Corvette 2:03.974
8 - 3 Corvette 2:05.979
9 - 66 Ford
10 67 Ford
DNF 72 Ferrari
Incidents included:
72 Ferrari in the tire wall and had to be flat bedded out (primary reason for red flag)
62 Ferrari, 66 Ford, and 912 Porsche also had offs, but got back on without incident.
Normally, if they don't get qualifying in, I believe they run in season points order, but as this is the first race of the year,

As z28 noted --- heavy rain played a huge part in qualifying times.
Some teams chose not to participate due to risk/reward scenario.
The actual starting grid will be re-ordered within each class with the "P" cars starting at the head of the grid.

It was a very strange qualifying day, but it is such a long race, I'm not sure it matters a whole lot. It will be very exciting with the Ford GT in the mix. The Fords were slow in qualifying but I bet they were just making sure to not wreck (as was everyone else). Go Corvette!!!

Finally got a dry practice in, which should mirror race conditions. Corvettes were 7th and 8th in practice, although 4-11 were all within a 1/2 second. Fords were bringing up the rear, but not too far off pace.
The BMWs were 1 and 2, with .3 seconds on one of the Ferrari and 1/2-1 second over everyone else.
In a 24 hour race, flying lap times won't be as relevant, but looks like BMW will have the speed this year. With all the new cars, will be interesting who has the reliability for the 24 hours.
Over in the prototype cars, looks like the DP prototypes are off paces from the P2 cars, as the Corvette prototypes bring up the rear, but things seem to change in race conditions and with tire wear.

Porsche was fast in the rain, I think some of that was the car and some of that was Nick Tandy, who seems to be a great rain driver. In the dry practice, Porsche wasn't overly quick or anything.

Little over 2 hours in. Corvettes running 2 and 5, although the top 3 in GTLM did not pit under the last yellow and will probably need to come in soon. Corvettes look to have pretty good speed. Fords are probably fastest, but both have had mechanical issues, so they run towards the back.
The #4 Corvette, currently in 5th, had a low tire and took an extra pit stop. One of the BMWs had a flat tire as well. Otherwise, good race so far.

3 Hours in, Corvettes running 1-2. 8 GTLM cars still on the same lap though, so plenty of racing to go.
Other Ford with gearbox issues.
Corvette DP's running 1-2 for now as well.

Both still running at least...better than Nissan GTR LM could do...lol...(so far)...
Can't believe Andy Merick just drove the deltawing right into the back of that car at turn1...
4hrs in, Corvettes doing well so far...knock on wood.

Yes, local yellow at the entrance and spotters telling drivers, bu you come into that turn from pretty high speed and if there was a case where cars were coming in 2 wide (not the case there) trouble was sure to happen. Still think FCY was needed.
Anyway, yellow flag pits and restart little after 5 hours in were not kind to Corvettes who now run 4th and 6th. Went into the Yellow with the #3 12 seconds ahead. Still 7 or 8 GTLM cars on same lap, so anything can happen.
