Get the DRM valved Bilstein shocks instead. They are really nice for the $$.

I have seen seen graphs saying the 04z shock was better than the drm. Now, were they correct, I have no idea.

I have an 02z with t1 bars and run 285's square for hpde. I am looking for a shock that I install and don't think about for a few years...lol

Lap times are not my goal. But, trying to get best bang for buck and streetable shocks is.

Honestly I preferred my 03 shocks to the 04. My gut feeling is the 04's have too much bump stiffness at low piston speeds.

What did the dyno show that was better? I have not seen it. Can you post it or send it to me? I would just like to see it.

Just my personal preference I like them a lot better than the stock shock on my 04. To me they fell like a high end race shock just without the adjustments. Of course they are a stiff shock, maybe to stiff for some on the street, but I like them.

Well I won't post the graph or send it to you... I made an error! The post/ graph I had found was from 2002. I thought it was 2012. Clearly the 04 shocks were not made in 02. So I confused the data in the graph. Reading is fundamental!
:shiner:

So the info I was reffering to was not current or correct in refference to 04z shocks vs drm's.

So, do you have any downsides to the drm's? And you in a c5 or c6?

Thanks

The best shocks for my style I drove in a c5z were a set of penskes. But there were some tricks. I sent my stock shocks in, and had them basically match the stock curves on the low end of adjustment. Only a little more digressive. I.e. At body roll piston speeds they matched, but at road bump piston speeds they were much softer than stock.

Funny thing, they sucked with normal gas pressures. With less than 50 psi they started to work. But honestly they never worked better on any surface on anything but full soft. So I'd say they weren't worth the money over stock 03 shocks.

And my 04 just feels way too stiff and skittery over bumps.

I have no downside on the DRM’s I have been very happy with them on my 04 ZO6. (I wish they were adjustable but then they would be $$$$) I did install them without the dust boot and cut down one of the top bushings to gain a little more shock travel.

Yea, over 14 years DRM may have adjusted the settings. I have no idea if they have or not.

We dyno'd a set of 04Z shocks at Penske a few years ago, the low speed stuff was actually pretty lazy, and they remarked that is pretty common for an OEM shock for hwy ride quality. I have put 04Z shocks on earlier 01-03 cars and to me, they always rode better and seemed to have less force on the slow speed stuff. I don't have any 01-03 dyno comparisons though.

Another mention, is the OEM shocks have rubber bushings at both ends, and thus you're going to get hysteresis just from the lag in the bushing. When we dyno'd them at penkse, we pressed out the lower bushing and used a pin/bushing to secure it to the Roehrig. So this is "best case scenario" and better than you're going to get in a car with squishy upper/lower bushings.

I've seen a lot of good lap times and track records on 04Z shocks.

When I switched from 03Z to 04Z shocks back when we were in PTA/TTA trim, I immediately felt like the car was more settled and took a "set" better. With the 03 shocks, the car would "chatter" on turn in. I did not feel that with the 04Z shocks at all.

Gene Culley with GM Performance can get you a set.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but has anyone compared the JOC shocks vs the DRM shocks? I have the JOC stage one kit and while i don't have any basis of comparison on the vette, they seem to have balance of comfort and performance.
