For some very interesting insight as to Level 5's expenditure level, go to dinnerwithracers.com and listen to the episode on Level 5. You'll hear about their effort to get Tucker to a sub 2 minute lap at the SCCA Runoffs in a D Sport Racer. Car had a custom developed engine, hours and hours of CFD, multiple suspension geometries all developed on Multimatic's simulator, over a dozen test days at Putnam Park and Road America. All for a SCCA title.
Fascinating podcast and the story told by Jeff Braun, a superb engineer.

I felt like I was representing every Club racer that day.
Truthfully, I never felt any ill-will towards Scott, and certainly not his team. I'm still friends with many of them. No one has ever accused me of running a shoe-string race program, so how could I whine about the money he spent?
But it did get absurd.
I remember talking with the a Kelly-Moss guys at Sebring one year, and I joked about Scott hoing Spec Miata racing. They rolled their eyes and all said, "the world's first $250,000 Miata."
At the end, I think those guys had a certain amount of respect (if that's the right word) for what I did because I gave him a good run and didn't complain about the disparity in budgets. They knew what the "score" was.
