THE LIVE SHOWING OF THE RACE IS ON NBC !!!
IT IS NOT ON NBC SPORTS NET!!!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
1. THE TIMES AND DAYS FOR THIS RACE ARE REALLY DIFFERENT, SO PAY ATTENTION!
2. THERE ARE THREE SHOWINGS OF THE RACE THIS SUNDAY (!!)
3. THERE ARE TWO SHOWINGS OF QUALIFYING AND TWO SHOWINGS OF PRACTICE.
4. ALL PROGRAMS ARE ON NBC SPORTSNET THIS WEEKEND EXCEPT FOR THE
xxLIVE BROADCAST OF THE RACE ITSELF.
5. There are TWO PRE-RACE shows scheduled SEPARATELY this Sunday
xxFOR THE LIVE RACE ONLY.
6. The first PRE-RACE show is scheduled for 4:00 AM (PDT) on NBCSN.
xxThis is not where the race will be shown!!
7. The second PRE-RACE show is included with the race broadcast on NBC
xxstarting at 4:30 AM (Pacific time.)
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The post-race show "F1 Extra" is shown immediately after the race show
whatever time that may be. NBC schedules "F1 Extra" to start 2 hours after
the start of the race but, in reality, it's always shown immediately after the race
irregardless of the clock. The simplest way to make sure you record "F1 Extra" is
simply to add enough extra time to the race broadcast recording to get (a) any
extra time that was needed to record the entire race including any delays, and
(b) "F1 Extra". My standard is to add at least three hours (!) just to make
sure I cover most eventualities.
I pull this schedule info from from my Tivo's schedule. I have no guarantee
that it is correct but it usually is. I also double check it with the NBC
Sports NET schedule.
--------------------------------------------------------------
ALL TIMES PACIFIC DST TIME !!!!! (Eastern times in parens)

THURSDAY May 26, 2016

Friday May 27, 2016
--------------------
-----------------------
Sunday May 29, 2016

GP2
For anyone interested, NBCSN will be showing the Monaco GP2 Race.
Both showings are tape delayed. These races are often *very*
entertaining - often better than the F1 race! Recommended!!

(1) The LIVE race is being shown on NBC and NOT on NBC SPORTS NET!!
Pay close attention to the way the schedule works on race day morning.
The first pre-race show will be shown on NBC SportsNet (NBCSN).
Then you switch to NBC (NORMAL NBC as in "your local NBC station")
for the standard pre-race show and the race itself. Then, if you want
to see the "F1 Extra" for the race, you have to switch BACK to NBCSN
for the 7:00 AM post-race show.
This is important - to see the post-race show ("F1 Extra") after the
race is shown on NBC you must switch BACK to NBCSN at 7:00 AM!!!
To make it simple for your brain... all shows at all times will be on NBCSN
EXCEPT FOR the chunk of time between 4:30 AM and 7:00 AM Sunday
morning when you should be watching NBC.
(2) Practice is on THURSDAY morning. They do not run the cars on
Fridays at Monaco.

Kvyat seems to be trying to show he's just as good as Verstappen.

He's not, though.
Yes, he was looking pretty "motivated" today. But Monaco is the exception that proves the rule. It is the aberration in the season. Weird stuff happens there. Using it to make comparisons is probably not a great idea.
Right now I'd make it 50/50 that he's gone next season. Toro Rosso is for young drivers on their way *up* the Red Bull training ladder... With both driver spots at Red Bull contracted for at least the next two years, it's not easy to imagine *either* Toro Rosso driver staying there next year when they will already know what the current guys have to offer.
I think Kvyat got a raw deal but Red Bull is Red Bull. There sure is an odd psychological mishmash operating those teams

It's because of the unique nature of Monaco. The place is so small. and access to pretty much anything in the place is already severely limited 24/7/365 regardless of the racing weekend. Now imagine blocking off *all* vehicle access to the hotels, restaurants, stores, etc., for three solid days...
Also, Friday is traditionally "market day" so they keep the roads open for the residents to be able to stock up and hide themselves indoors away from the huge crowd that descends upon them each year (normal population = ~38,000, race visitor count = (allegedly) ~150000.)
It's been this way for as long as I can remember. On the other hand, I believe they ran GP2's Race #1 this morning. So they must be infringing on the "tradition" to some degree.
The cynics say it's the hotel industry adding a mandatory extra (expen$$ive) day to everyone's credit card.

Slightly off-topic...
At Monaco this weekend Pirelli has on display a rough mock-up of a 2017 F1 car
with the new tire sizes and track width measurements. It's interesting.

Also, for a much more complete look at the difference between the current
cars and next year's cars:

(It says it's a video but there's a written piece with extensive graphics as well.)

Kind of wishing they'd pick a direction

Not sure what this means. This is the direction. This was built to illustrate what the cars will be like next year. The other link provides the actual details of the changes but the demo car is there to give everyone a reasonable 3D visual - just give the thing a "15% squint". The chassis specs, tires, specs, aero specs, etc., were settled a while back. It was the engine rules and changes that were up in the air 'til the last hour.
The rear wing looks to be fairly close to the new rules, too. They will be quite a bit lower than the current ones.
