Default T56 vs TR6060 & '07 vs 08 steering "feel"

been in the market for a '08-13 Z06 for 6-8 months now.
i wanted the new trans and the "improved steering feel" of the 08s+.

however ive come across a 07 thats so exactly what im wanting its making me question my choice.

car will be a dedicated track/HPDE car. so trans and steering feel are highly important to me vs someone buy for daily or weekend car.

1. has anyone driven both the 06-07 T56 and 08+ TR6060? thoughts on both? shift ease, feel, strength etc. which one is better?

i currently race a f-body with a T-56, although there must be some differences as mine is motor mounted, not in the rear.

2. its mentioned for '08 that they "improved steering feel" but never any mention of what they did. anyone know? different steering ratio? less power steering assist? removed rubber coupler in steering shaft or something? anyone know? also anyone driven both '06-07 and a '08-13 on or off track. is the difference noticeable?

i recently test drove an '08 Z06 and thought the steering felt very dead to me. however i was on the street, but it had no feedback like im used to in my f-body.

You drive a C5 Z06 yet?

TR6060 isn't needed, the T56 will last with fluid changes just like it has in the Fbody.

I think you are overthinking this. I wish you were closer I would stuff you in my car and turn you loose....and watch you come back with your jaw on the floor.

I have an 07 and my buddy had an 08 with exact same clutch. Trans felt very similar but I think his was a little more notchy. I'd choose mine. I couldn't tell any difference with the steering. I laugh when people talk crap about 06-07. That is just plain stupid!

Default trans

I’ve had and tracked both, comments:

-2007 C6Z w/T56 OEM – worked fine and reasonable, car had mods to 565 rwhp, decent shifts.
-RPMs T56 in same car – their mods did make it shift a little smoother.
-T6060 in ZR1 OEM – trans is more heavy duty with larger teeth, thus some notchiness when shifting cold for some. Trans works well but shifting is not as agile as the T56 with smaller/more teeth.

For big builds you probably want a 6060, for road course and shifting the nod goes to the T56. These are minor differences though. With either a 2007 or 8 you’ll still need to upgrade to a larger oil tank for tracking. It’s not til 2009 til you get both the 6060 and the larger oil tank.

Either trans will be fine unless you are going to power over say 600rwhp. Put in some decent fluids for trans, diff, brakes, clutch. Others can chime in. Just buy whatever car suites you enough and get on with enjoying it. My two bits.

I went from a C5 with the T56 to an 08Z with the T6060. Shift effort was a little less on the C6. I went from using 3 fingers to move the shifter to only needing to use 2. Both shifted quickly and easily with the stock shifter.

Found this on another site: Steering system – The Corvette's precise rack-and-pinion steering system is revised to provide improved feel at all speeds. The revisions are due to a new, premium machining process of the system's internal components, a new, stiffer intermediate shaft and controller calibration changes. So the mechanical hardware was changed along with the programming in the EBCM. http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...ad.php?t=61854

Another couple of items to consider if you're getting a C6 Z06 and will track it.

'09s and later have a Bosch ABS system that is supposed to be more track friendly and '09s and later have the larger dry sump tank.

#1 yes. Get the TR6060 if there is an option. It does shift a bit smoother, but the hard cold shifts and slave cylinder problems are still there.

#2 I think GM changed the bushings on the steering rack, but I couldn't tell a damn bit of difference.

I had heard about this when the Bosch system was introduced in '09. Then it got posted publicly. I'll have to dig it out, but there was discussion on this on roadraceautox.com forums, with the info posted by a couple of engineers who worked on the vehicle (and both are club racers). I'll see if I can find it tonight and link it.

OP, here's a link to some interesting discussion about the Delphi vs Bosch ABS system. The OP of the linked thread was interested in autocrossing, but the ABS system discussion is more relevant to track events.

http://www.roadraceautox.com/showthr...light=Corvette

Of most interest would be posts 20, 23, and 39.

Steering in the later C6s is "better" in the same way that the steering in the C6 steering is "better" than the C5.

It still sucks. You're looking at the wrong car if you want steering feel.

Interested note on the ABS system upgrade...

I wonder if this is something that can be easily retrofitted to the older C6Zs...
