Default Formula One - United States - TV Times (U.S.)

Formula One - UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX - MULTIPLE NETWORKS!!!
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

THINGS TO KNOW:

THE TIMES AND PROGRAM LENGTHS FOR THIS WEEKEND ARE DIFFERENT, SO PAY ATTENTION!

COVERAGE WILL BE ON *TWO* NETWORKS - NBC AND NBC SPORTS NET

ALL SHOWINGS WILL BE ON NBCSN EXCEPT FOR THE PRE-RACE SHOW AND THE LIVE RACE which will be on NBC.

THE PRE-RACE SHOW IS SCHEDULED SEPARATELY FROM THE RACE

THE PRE-RACE SHOW WILL BE ON NBC (See the schedule.)

*LIVE* COVERAGE OF THE RACE WILL BE ON NBC

There Will be ONE showing of PRACTICE #1.

There will be TWO showings of PRACTICE #2.

There will be TWO showings of QUALIFYING.

There will be THREE showings of the race.

AGAIN - THE PRE-RACE SHOW FOR THE LIVE SHOWING OF THE RACE IS ON NBC!!!

They are doing things a little differently from normal this weekend. Both
Qualifying (live) and the Race (live) are scheduled for a period longer that we
normally get, For instance, the qualifying show on Saturday is scheduled to run
for 3 ½ hours. The TV coverage begins at 9:30 AM Pacific while the actual
qualifying takes place at NOON (!) which means they are showing an additional
2 ½ hours of "stuff" prior to actual qualifying.

The same thing applies to the race coverage ON NBC except that the extra
time will be added to the END of the coverage - after the race is over. Yes,
that's on NBC (your normal NBC station as in "The Nightly News" and not the cable
channels.)

The post-race show "F1 Extra" is shown immediately after the race
show whatever time that may be. the simplest way to make sure you
record it is to simply add enough extra time to the race broadcast recording to
get (a) any extra time that was needed to record the entire race
including any delays, and (b) "F1 Extra". My standard is to
add at least three hours (!) just to make sure I cover most eventualities.

I pull this info from from my Tivo's schedule. I have no guarantee that
it is correct but it usually is. I then compare that with the times listed
on zap2it and the F1 Times website.

-------------------------

11:30 AM - Pre-race (2:30 PM Eastern) NBC ((½ hour)
12:00 NOON - RACE [LIVE] (3:00 PM Eastern) NBC (3 hours!)
Remember to add LOTS of time to the end to cover all eventualities!!!!
04:00 PM - RACE [RESHOWING] (7:00 PM Eastern) NBCSN (2 hours)

Monday October 24, 2016
--------------------------

12:30 PM - RACE [RESHOWING] (3:30 PM Eastern) NBCSN (2 hours)

Enjoy!

Thanx for the info.

Went a few years back and absolutely loved it.
COTA is a fantastic facility with great viewpoints all around the track.

If anyone is going, please take some pics and post 'em for the rest of us.

Was there all three days, all the events were awesome. Alonso diving in and passing on 14 and passing on 12 for 5th place at the end was awesome. I was on T15 at the top, pretty awesome! Coverage outside the event is dismal.

I need to look down the Tivo schedule and see what they intend to do with the Mexico race next weekend. Jerks.

Hey, Z, just wanted to say Thanks again for the info. I've been utterly swamped with 4 different paying projects this past week, and literally just now got back to your thread.

Hopefully things will give me a bit more time for Mexico!

Have a good one,
Mike

NBC gave us the works this race showing all 3 practices, with pre/post shows.

The race itself wasn't the most dramatic of the year, particularly with Max and Kimi becoming DNFs.
Rosberg was smart not to give Hamilton an opportunity to punt him off the track.
At this point, it is his championship to lose.

Good catch! I somehow missed that one. Amazing stuff. Paul Hembrey needs to carry a laminated copy of that pic with him at each race to shove in the face of anyone who whines about the mandated tire pressures!

There were some pics like that on the broadcast that got my attention but as they were video, they were there and then gone.

Yes, I know that these tires are "wrinkle wall" construction, that they're designed to do this, but STILL......

http://www.draglist.com/artman/uploads/21_001.jpg

Top fuel cars are just mind-boggling!

BTW, good on Haas for getting another point at home, although the brake problems still exist.

Oh, and one other question: don't they have torque feedback on the tire guns to tell the driver's paddle board to go from red to green? If they don't, why not? With all the tech in F1 you'd think reasonably easy things like that would be almost afterthoughts.

Have a good one,
Mike

Ya think?!

The biggest diff between drag tires and the F1 tires is the required longevity and the repeated(!) LATERAL loading. And no "screwing the tires to the rims" BS - the bead has to hold.

Good question. But then F1 (like everything involving humans) has always had its blind spots. I've mentioned it before but it always stunned me that the idea of being able to adjust the downforce on the front wings was brought to them from CART racing by Jacques Villeneuve despite the fact that the F1 folks had been watching the Champ Car folks adjust their front wings during pit stops ON TV for years. I mean, seriously?

Oh yeah, definitely "optimized" for their applications. I don't even want to think about how Pirelli builds those tires. I would honestly be surprised if they don't do things like change compounds across the surface of the tire.

Beware: wizards and dragons live here!

Loading on outside rear looks in danger of losing it's bead, I'd like to know side G-load in that pic.

Here's a snap of Vettel doing a Practice 3 run through Degner with Bernie's G-Force meter running. It shows 3.9 lateral Gs. He was doing a serious lap here as his final time for the lap was only 1 second behind Rosberg's fastest. Vettel is almost up to where where Rosberg was in the photo (30 feet short?)
