Default How great is Watkins Glen?

Just did a two day event with HOD at WGI. Wow! Love that track. Car ran great all weekend and turned a decent 2:09 best lap. It was a bucket list track for me, but I plan to get back there as soon as possible. If you haven't had the chance and you're able to get there I highly recommend it.

The Glen is the best track in the Northeast, hands down. HOD is a great group to run with as well....I've instructed for them on several occasions and always a good experience.

OOPS!! I got the wall in between 8 and 9 the year before they paved but hit tire wall so there was no damage that looks like armco or wall and you get to pay for damage.....
We were there with COM sept 12 and 13 I ran a 2:04 till it melted a cat and ran a 2:06 in the TT sucked having only 120 on the back straight.
The New Pavement Is AWESOME a great improvement for an already fun track.

The mustang wreck was ugly. Felt bad for him but rumor in the pits was that he was insured.

Never met a track I didn't like, albeit some better than others.

Hey Ed. I was there! Sunday only in the blue Z06. Was on the track when the mustang hit the wall. What were you driving?

Great track, worth the drive from Kalifornia. Would love to go more often. Ran every lap, had a bonus session at the end of the day. The ambulance was waiting for me to come of track so they could go. Sorry fellows, running every lap.

Picked up Mid Ohio on the way back.

Try to make time to visit the museum and drive the old route through town.

Usually go once a year. This year with repave, went 4x and would have been 5 had meetings which all got cancelled (%^&#) not got in the way.
Hate to see the powder blue embedded in the Mustang. Even with insurance, the usual 10% deductible plus the armco repair bill will make it quite expensive.
Anyone know where it happened?

I was on the track when it happened. He hit the wall just outside of turn 11 on the front straight, left side of the track. Right where you would track out. I talked to him after and he said he was trail braking and the rear came loose. I saw debris on the inside corner of 11 strewn across the track all the way to the wall. Looked to me like he lost it at the apex and went directly to the opposite wall. I really felt bad for him.

That isn't a turn where you want to be trail braking. Need to be back on the throttle almost as soon as you get the car rotating and heading toward the Apex. By the way the Apex is about 20 ft sooner than where they place the Apex cone.

Love Watkins Glen! We go every summer with PCA.

In the classroom they ask the question
"What are the fast corners on this track?"

Answer "All of them"

enough said!
