I have limited choices in my tire sizes unfortunately.

I can currently purchase the R888R in the correct size for the front (275/35x18) and I'm hoping after the first of the year they will announce the size I need for the rear (345/30x19) otherwise I'll just mix the Rs on the front and run the old style on the rear.

The only other streetable tires I see in my needed sizes are the Michelins Superpilot or whatever but they cost like 40% more and apparently pretty much melt under use.

I have actually found my R888s to be very streetable with better wear than I was expecting. But as others have pointed out, they hardened up on the first track day and were never the same after that. I'm hoping heat cycling my new ones will help with that.

What is the difference between the R888 and the R888R?
It looks like the R888 can be swapped from side to side where the R888R is both directional and side specific. That, to me, seems like a disadvantage as far as getting the most out of the tires wear wise. And is there an advantage over the Hoosier R7s?

The R888R's are at the least an updated tread pattern and at most might be an updated tread compound. Speaking to Toyo about the differences they told me the R888R has notably better dry weather performance but slightly less wet weather performance than the R888.

The R888s is also side specific and are labeled Left & Right.

Well the Hoosier is really another level of tire never suitable for a street car. I mean, it has no tread. It also has the distinction of being able to out 'G' the OEM oiling systems on these cars giving you another set of problems to deal with.

I think the R888 & R888R's are in the top of 5 for most track oriented tires that are usable on the street and can pass a state safety inspection. I find them very easy to live with for a street tire as well.

I am curious to if these R888R's will be a better autox tire since they come to temp faster according to toyo... I am looking for a tire I can run both autox and a track day here and there on my spare stock wheels.. I run autox events with a local club, so im not worried about being bumped class wise cause its below 200tw.. im torn between trying these or just going with RS3's.. never ran a r comp before. my ccw's have NT05 on them and they will stay for street use. any thoughts?

Phil, you already have the 275/35x18 that I need on your website but I need to pair that with 345/30x19 rears too. Both in the R888R.

Eagerly awaiting the first of the year hoping that Toyo announces some new sizes.

PS. For those that don't know Phil has the same pricing as others but whips them pretty good on shipping charges and offers heat cycling.

I just received email confirmation that the R888R 345/ 30x19 is being released later this month.

Of course it also said at the bottom of the email everything is confidential in that email so maybe I shouldn't post that info!

Either way, this means my sizes will be available very soon and I'll order them from Phil as soon as he can take my order.

Very pleased that I decided to wait it out. The R888Rs are supposed to be quite the upgrade.

Thanks for the update. I am waiting too. Using up all my MPSS and PS2s in the meantime.

There is a part number for the tires, and they are on a boat to the Long Beach port right now. However as of earlier this week no one could price them and take my money for them yet. Do you know anyone with great prices on the West Coast for race tires? That would speed up delivery time by about a week in my case.

Well that's a good sign as the Toyo website doesn't show that size in the line up. That gives me hope that many more sizes may be available in the near future. I hope they release an R888R 305/35ZR18 within the next few months. I'd be very interested in swapping tires early to see if there is any noticeable difference.

Awesome. Thank you. How do you know there on the way to US? I have rims coming in the next two weeks or so. There going to the vendor first and we're to be mounted with nt05's. Hoping I might be able to get these instead.

So my old R888s are so shot that I really can't drive my Vette. I need new tires (and alignment) but wanted the latest and greatest and so was waiting for the new R888Rs to be available.

I have called Toyo 3x over the last 3 months trying to get updates as they told me my size was coming. I called them again about 1-2 weeks ago and they told me they were on the boat, they gave me the part #, and they told me they would land at the Long Beach Port in about 3 weeks (this was 2 weeks ago however.)

I still can not order them however. Toyo told me that with the part # they should have pricing by now. I was intending on purchasing from Phil's Tire Service and I still probably will. However if I could locate a distributor on the West Coast that could match Phil's prices it would save about 1 week in shipping as that is how much extra it would take to ship them from CA, to NY, then to TX.

I sent an email last week and this is the response I just received this morning. (The photo) After reading your reply I gave them a call and they were zero help and said expect 2 months to be more accurate. She said it doesn't matter if they arrive they will not begin selling them until they have a "launch". Pretty much ran me around in circles.

Here is what Toyo Customer Service sent me on Jan. 6th! This was an earlier communication.

"Thank you for contacting Toyo Tires USA. The estimated release date for the Proxes R888R 345/30ZR19 is set for the end of this month, early next month. Once it is made available it will be on our web-site.
