2015 helmet fit - open face - comments
I bought an inexpensive ZAMP open face for autox as my old HJC timed out. I have a full coverage so don't take the thread there on one vs other.
Used at event 1st time yesterday great course & beautiful day at the XXX stadium in San Diego (another thread).
So I usually (as most) take it on/off each run.
Well that SOB is HARD to get onto your head since it has those new low cheek/jaw extensions. Once it's on it's ok fit wise, not as comfortable as my old HJC or the full Pyrotect I have. But comfort enough for 60 sec at a time. But it's a battle me vs. helmet to get on/ off.
They all that way? Man o man. Like doing bicep curls getting it on, off is a "little" easier.

Burning Brakes
I think all new helmets exhibit that until they are broken in. I remember being fitted for my Stilo and telling the guy at the speed shop it was too tight. He warned me that it would loosen up as I wore it more and he was correct. Give it a little more time and I bet you'll be fine.

Froggy, how often do you autocross in the SD area? Any events you recommend? I usually do spirited canyon driving or local HPDEs (Chuckwalla, Willow Springs, etc), but would love to come check out the AutoX thing. Thanks!

A couple of years back I did some work with Snell. Here are the guidelines for checking your helmet for the proper fit.
If you can roll the helmet backwards far enough to expose your forehead, or if you can move it forward enough to block your vision, the helmet fits poorly. Do not use it. Replace the helmet with a smaller size.
If you can't remove the helmet and it doesn't roll either backward far enough to expose your forehead or forward far enough to block your vision, you have a proper fit. A helmet that doesn’t fit snugly can easily rotate over the front of your head in an accident and come off, reducing the protection it provides to zero.
Now ask someone to help you while you bend your neck to lower your chin to your chest. With the helper standing in front of you and the helmet in place with the chin strap properly fitted, the helper should grasp the bottom edge of the back of the helmet and pull forward. The helmet should not be easily removed with a moderate pulling effort. The general rule is to choose the smallest helmet you can bear, but without any particular pressure points (or voids between head and helmet).
