Hearing Loss
A lot of us have hearing loss. We're old and we're deaf. I offer this for the younger folks here who still have pretty good hearing.
NIOSH researchers found that, at the track, the noise reaches an unsafe level (meaning permanent hearing loss is likely) during a NASCAR race:
In less than a minute in the car
In less than two minutes in the pits and infield
In 7 to 10 minutes in the stands
Here's the whole article.

I'm still not real good at using my custom ear plugs.
The worst noise is the garage area at a NASCAR race. I have taken to using over-the-ear muffs at a NASCAR event.
The other really painful noise is the Corvette GTLM cars. I swear they run about 14 to 1 compression ratios. Maybe more. You can hear them all over Sebring.
Then we have the NHRA Top Fuel cars. OMG.

Geez, and I thought it came from sitting too close to speakers at too many rock concerts in the '60s.
