Default 1st blackstone report..

I thought we had a thread with running blackstone/oil sample reports, but I can't find it...

Anyway, here is my sample....
02 Z06 43k miles on car...
my 1st sample on this car
4100 miles and 1 full day at RRR on this sample
mods EOC only

And track day was back in Nov and I have put about 1500 miles since then without adding any extra oil. I filled with the 1 extra qt in NOV. so that may have added to the better than avg numbers

and for those not logged in, here is the text from comments

KIRK: We think this is the first time we've seen this 2002 Z06, but if there's any existing history we overlooked please let us know. Wear metals are in great shape, so this engine doesn't seem to mind the
romping you've been giving it at the track. If anything, that type of use tends to make wear read higher than it otherwise would, but that's not really the case even though this was a longer run than the average interval of about 3,800 miles. The TBN is strong at 5.9, so this 0W/40 Mobil 1 oil was still protecting the engine
when it was changed. What a nice report!

pretty good, I use the 0w40 myself. out of curiosity, how hot did the oil get at the track and how hot was ambient that day?

I had a report done with about the same street miles and a track day or two and the report came back strong like yours. I use Mobil 0w-40 as well. Report game me piece of mind while on the track however even though I have an EOC and the temps at the highest point reached 280 I will need to keep an eye on oil pressure. I wouldn't think the Mobil would be shearing that bad at that temp but something to note.

Nice Report! I too just started using blackstone and really like how they createe results based on what you write. I was changing my oil for every event. At one point I did two events and the oil was jet black. I told them how I use my car and they used data to tell me my car should be good for two events, maybe even three. So I'll test it again after two events and see what the results are.

I also did some head and cam work on a C3, and had blackstone test the oil after two changes just to see if there were any unhealthy symptoms. Also had them test the oil in my wife's Jeep that I was using as an occasional tow vehicle to make sure there were no signs of engine abuse.

Great data based service they provide!

Did you notice a drop in pressure? I am running the Melling high pressure pump. When oil temp is 210° at idle i see about 44psi when i was running 10w40. At the track the oil got as hot as 270° for me and at idle it would go down to about 38-39psi.

No higher than 250. I have no idea what track temp was that day but it was "cool".. It's Savannah GA 1st weekend of NOV, so I would call it 50-55

I always try and look at pressures as temp and rpm go up, but I NEVER remember...lol

I need to change the DIC to pressure and off temp for a few laps

Agreed.. my 2 previous vette's had multiple reports.. great way to track trends and get a general idea of engine health. And for us as a group great way to get facts about which oil is doing "OK" on the track.

I will take a mental note of this... to which I will forget completely next time I am at the track...lol
Thanks for the info!

Is this on the new formula Mobil 1 0-40? Mobil 1 changed the 0-40 formula last year, the new formula has "FS" on the back of the container. A lot of people are badmouthing the new formula but I still plan on running it so a good report is music to my ears.

Great results, thank you for sharing. I plan on putting M1 0W40 in my car before it hits the track next month. I also use this oil in my daily driver VW with a 10,000 mile OCI and it works great. Wasn't aware that the formula changed, I will have to look into that further.

I had no idea.. and I just checked the 6 (5 qt) jugs I have and 5 ARE FS.

I have no idea what was in the car, new vs old. And I have no idea what IS in the car now. I will be doing another 2 (at least) samples with more trackdays on them.

Next change, I will use the FS just to see if any difference.

I have 0 loyalty to brands for fluids. I jumped to the mobil 0w-40 based off ~10 oil samples I saw here years ago. Then my samples on my previous FRC's were good so I stuck with it.

I have a LS7 and have used 0w-40 since having it go out of warranty and after having valve work done. I notice the 0w-40 M1 (old) is thicker at cold temps running higher PSI until the car is warm, then runs about the same as 5w-30 M1. I run track temps up to 260F max in my car and the idle psi when the oil is above 200F is low 20's - same as 5w-30 as far as I can tell..

I assume it is better for track (tolerates high temps better) than 5w-30, but it does bother me that it causes higher oil pressures until warm (above about 170F - which is hard to get to on the street in my '08) and doesn't seem to be much if at all thicker than 5w-30 when warm!
