Default oil on new bilstein shock bodies and popped upper clip

I recently purchased a set of new bilstein rears and they both had oil on them - one more so than the other. The one with more oil also had the upper clip loose - to the point that when I was testing the shock's motion I kept hearing a cracking sound toward the end of the travel, then heard the clip pop off out of its groove. I was able to get the clip back in with snapring pliers but its gap looks a couple mm wider than the other shocks' clip.

Should I return one or both of these? I hate dealing with customer service people and bet theyre going to act like the oil thing isnt a problem, but that clip to me could be a safety issue. Im also not sure if this is going to turn into one of those return it to bilstein and youll get replacements in a month even though you just ordered this part a couple days ago...

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

I've had good experiences with Bilstein customer service.

If you bought them from Tire Rack they'll do a same day replacement.

I would go to the vendor you bought them from first. They should send a new one out the same day. If they give you a hassle just let all of us know. Actually it may be even more important to let us know if the vendor meets your expectations.

Companies like Amazon and Tire Rack are setting new standards for customer service.

The power of social media is incredible.

I went through the vendor today and had no hassles getting new ones sent out.
Thanks for the advice; I was preparing for this to be an exercise in frustration...
