Vintage Racing is for Old Guys................

It's also for rich young guys.
I was at the recent Sebring event. The number of tractor trailer rigs grows geometrically every year.
The two most critical items to go vintage racing are time and money. Those two items may be why we see so few young people.

I would LOVE to build a C3 B/P car, but I have to sell my C4 race car first. I'm 29 but grew up working on C2 and C3 and have a C3 street car now.

I know! I have been lusting over the white one with removable body panels, but I wont be a serious buyer until I sell my C4 and open a spot in the garage. I have a 327ci and a spare muncie in my garage so it wouldn't take much to get it on track (may not be competitive right away, but drivable). I'll continue to keep an eye on it.

I guess the responses to my thread didn't go exactly as I anticipated.
My intent was to show those who like racing, but consider Vintage as NOT racing, that we really DO have exciting racing after all. IF you don't see Vintage as racing, perhaps you aren't sitting in the right seat

driving a vintage racer is a lot like work, no big brakes, no rack & pinion steering, no computer, 60`s technology and treaded tires oh yea and after a crash no crying to the insurance company like the hpde guys do...and best of all in vintage you get to pass whenever and wherever you like, no waiting for a point by...

I'm finding that HPDE events are a better value. I get more track time for less money. Then we have the fact I no longer feel the need to be the fastest guy on the track

I can't lie. Seems like most if not all the dudes faster than me in class are older. I think most get into this later than I did. I can still swing kids and racing. I'm not a fan of HPDE. I can't stand point by passing. I love being in a race group with open passing. They seem to have their wits about them more so than the HPDE folk even if they can't always find the skinny pedal. I also like it when, on practice days, they split us into race car and non groups. All that said, vintage racing is still racing. I don't know that I'd have more fun doing that than what I do now. Either one is better than a track day or HPDE session for sure. There's nothing better than battling for position.

Come try out 10/10ths Motorsports if you are ever in the area. Advanced/instructor group is all open passing; anywhere, anytime and no point byes. And, as you said, it keeps everyone honest and paying attention. Heck, Bill used to do rolling starts a couple of times during the day. Also, TT's with nice trophies. I am not sure if he will continue that or not, though.
