How long have you owned this car? and Did this car come out of a collection in Georgia (Stone Mountain area)? I knew of one that looks a lot like this car and if so it is one sweet ride! The car I'm talking about was used in the Year One catalog.

The Vette came to Florida in '97 from Kokomo Indiana with about 800 miles on it. I did locate the person that restored it and have a few pics of the restoration from back then. It was found in Michigan brought to Indiana for restoration. To my understanding it was sold at the Kruse auction in Auburn Indiana in '91 as a #1 vette with no miles on it then. Went into a private collection then sold a year later to another collector. Then to Florida in '97. A good friend bought the vette and I kept it running like my '60. He decided to buy a new vette, he is an older gentleman, and I had told him that if he ever thought of selling it it was mine. And it is.

It's always good to hear that much background info on a car. I was hopeing this was the car that I knew before. I was going to offer to dig up a little more documentation for you from a previous owner (sorry). Good Luck with your sell. I think you have one of the most desireable cars on the market. Great Color!

Seeing how there's no VIN on the pad, how exactly do the numbers match?

For those that may not know.
When a C-1 Corvette is called a matching numbers car we assume that the engine, transmission, and any other dated componants are correctly dated and in line with the VIN# build date. Late 1960 is when VIN numbers started showing up on the engine pad. This is a number that is stamped into the right front corner of the engine block just forward to the right cylinder head. Prior to the actual VIN being stamped into the block itself the only number stamped there was "f" then the build date followed by a suffix code. The suffix would tell you how the engine and transmission were configured. Other numbers that are shown on an engine block are called casting numbers. Casting numbers are raised or cast and located on the rear of the block. They recognize the date that the engine was "Cast" or poured. One casting number represents the engine or block type. This number is located on the left rear of the block. The casting date would be on the right rear of the block and would be a letter that represents the month (A for January and so on) and then followed by the day and the last digit would be for the year of casting. The C-1 Corvettes 58-62 came with engines built in Flint. Engines that have a casting number with double digits for the calander year are incorrect and were cast in Tonawanda. Example: 1959 Corvette with VIN number J59S104633 built Thursday Febuary 19th Casting number 3756519. Casting date of A 21 9 this is January 21st of 1959. and the engine stamping date should be from days to weeks after the cast date. In this case it might read F B-11-9 DG. This car would be a base engine powerglide transmission car. Now for other matching numbers. There are many areas that have stamped or cast dates such as distributors, transmissions, rear ends or also known as rear chunks and other areas of these cars that can classify them as being "Numbers Matching". Anyone who knows C-1 Corvettes would certainly know that a Corvette can be claimed to be a numbers matching car even before the VIN was used on the block. I can go to Sears and buy a set of numbers and lettered stamps and put a VIN# on a bicycle but, is this all it takes to make it a "Numbers Matching" bike? I don't think so! Without the dates lined up properly you might as well paint your correct Corvette the wrong color.

I agree completely. It is totally correct to call this a numbers matching car! Just because it does not have a VIN stamp on the pad, it can still be a completely correct and numbers, matching car. Now if it did have a VIN stamp, It would be a whole different matter!

pad# F1008D6 is incorrect. It's probably F1008DG which is correct for a 60 with 1x4 and powerglide.

ZEEEE06 that was a good call to notice the 6 was really a G! Some folks may not have known that and this is the kind of information this forum is here to provide.
I Love the Corvette Forum!
