Default What is a 1958 Corvette Worth?

I need to get a value of a 1958 Corvette, red/white driver with moderate rust on frame, incorrect 350 engine but running well, incorrect radio but original radio in box, decent paint, incorrect but intact interior, hardtop and soft top. Moderate rust on all chrome.

Generally decent and complete but not restored condition.

I realize this could be very subjective and I am trying to get a present realistic value, not future value or past value.

Thanks for any ideas.

It's worth what you think it is and weather you "wont" it. That's the best advice you will get

58s are hard to come by, even with the changes and rust meaning surface rust and not holes the size of a baseball I would think 35-40k. Without pictures its really a crap shoot.

It's hard to determine a fair price for a '58 as you have described without photos. If you could possibly post some pics it would be a big benefit in helping you with a price.

I think closer to 35. '58s definitely get a bump over some of the other years because of their one year only status, but they are SO expensive to restore. The windshield and door posts are always rusted or broken and cost a fortune, and those "dot" instead of "dash" style gauges are pricey, too. And get a dollar figure on those trunk strips and louvered hoods. Eeek. Solid investment car, though.

$25K would be the maximum. I've seen some very nice 58's for not much more.

Thanks for everyone's help and opinions on this. As suggested, I have posted some pictures and will be getting a better portfolio of the interior and mechanicals. Some exterior photos of it in the garage can be seen by clicking on my profile by my messages and a couple of pictures of it outside can be seen in an album at this link:

Thanks again.

The 58 looks pretty solid in your pictures. Correct hood, trunk irons, How incorrect is the interior? frame rust degree (holes, surface, badly pitted...) I would say 35000.00+

That car is in the C1 forum --- for $55k and has a well documented past. Not the same thing as the original post in this thread.
I've been tracking specifically 58's for over a year now.
you can get a bucket of parts that needs paint and interior for $25k.
for 40 to 60 you'll get a dd that needs some work.
The nicest ones are 90 and up

Heck.. I'd drive that as-is. I imagined a tired looking car from your description. $37,000.

2 years ago I looked at a 1 owner, numbers matching, 245HP, PG that was a nice driver. It was very correct, had 1 repaint and needed some interior work but ran and drove great and the trunk bars were perfect. I passed on it at 30K because I didn't have room so my friend picked it up. You must be looking in the wrong place. Oh, and I've been tracking C-1's and C-2's for about 40 years.

I agree with you Snake. It appears most of these people have no clue on value. They will be advertising their cars for sale years from now and some other clueless member will say "that car won't last long at that price"!

I guess It boils down to supply, demand, and location. If that 58 was selling for 25k in Ontario Canada it would be sold in one day.

My source book, Black Book " CPI" , Cars of Particular Interest, Collectible Vehicle Value Guide, says the value in 2007 was $23k for fair, $41K for good, and $72K for fine.
(2007 was the last year I bought the book....) I believe the prices are about the same today.

Default Many thanks and more details

The incorrect interior I referred to is a matter of slightly different color than original. I remember the original being pure red like the exterior and this interior has some orange tint to it. The frame rust is more surface, not rust through. This is second-hand from the mechanic, but I can get a look at it when I get the car back. Someone mentioned about door hinges being broken, but that is not the case with this car, the doors work fine.

Thanks again for all the ideas. Like I said at the first post, I know value is quite subjective. I have to figure out whether I will buy it from my sister or part with it. I grew up with it, as my father bought it new and he passed away a couple of months ago. Anybody know a good Corvette Psychologist?

Hope you don't mind me bringing up an old dead thread, but I'm trying to help out my dad in valuing a 1958 Vette and I happened to come across this thread. I'm a regular over on the Camaro forums and figured I'd branch out a bit in hopes he might be able to get a good read on this gorgeous Monterrey Red 58' vette. If there's anyone out there who has good knowledge of how to value one of these guys, I'd GREATLY appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Doug
