This 1967 eBay Sting Ray is a $200,000 Beauty
Is it me, or does it seem as though eBay is becoming the go-to spot for scouting rare collectible Corvettes? One of the latest I've stumbled upon is a 1967 Lynndale Blue Sting Ray equipped with an (L71) 427 Tri-Power V8 with 435 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The car, being sold by Paramount Classic Cars, is now listed at $200,000 after bidders failed to meet the minimum price the seller desired.

As a famous man once remarked " Looks can be deceiving". The seller advertised that the car is "numbers matching". Probably the most misused phrase in the collector car hobby. No photos of the casting numbers, no details on the restoration, no NCRS awards for originality, etc.
Yet, the price is $200k. This is typical of dealers trying to sell 67 big block cars. Tis particular dealer has several high dollar cars with no proof that they are "real" original cars.

Why does a car with 29000 need a frame off?

I don't think I'd sell my car for less that $200K if it came to that. But I agree that if the paperwork isn't there and it's just another restored car that $200K might be pushing it a little. If the cylincer case can be confirmed and those wheels are originals, then maybe $200K isn't so far out.

I live in East Texas, and about 30-45 minutes from town out near the Ozarka water plant lies a yellow '65-67 convertible with a hard top under a tree. In fact it is chained to the tree. And chained to the tree is also a nice group of "welcoming" dogs with dull teeth. So I haven't gotten out to look at the car. Next to this C2 is a typical rundown sleazy trailer with an older late '60's, early '70's Ford F-100 with the severe rust. The sides of the bed are gone. Anyways I haven't seen the car in a year or so (I just don't get out that way much anymore) but I am tempted to search it out soon. But this C2 looked like it was a real street machine back in the heyday. It looks like a stock front end, but not sure too much about the rear clip or anything. Anyways, that restored C2 is nice, no doubt, but the price is not a deal.

maybe for Bill Gates or the "Insultan" of Brunai.. do like i would and buy 3 $70,000
drivers.. as for the "paperwork", i've owned 15 corvettes (1958 - 1970). i've got 1
protecto-plate. one year at Barrett-Jerk-Off, there were around 15 - 20 big block cars,
air, tri-powers, you name it. EVERY one had the "tank sticker" (if a 67), protecto-plate,
window sticker, dealer order and some even had the cancelled check for the deposit
when the car was ordered... MY A$$... that creep in canada making all this documentation
should be in prison. i currently own 4 mid-year big blocks and i've NEVER had a car run
better because of a piece of paper in the glove box. don't get me wrong, i'd love to have
"real" paperwork, but most of this is bull$hit... any of my brothers out there agree???

Although there is no question that there is a lot of fake paperwork out there - there is also a lot of real paperwork as well. When inspecting a potential purchase, I have found tank stickers still attached to the tank as well as duplicate carbon copies of the build sheet under carpets - the previous owner didn't even know it was there. I even inspected a '69 427 that the owner had replaced the fuel tank and threw the old tank next to a dumpster behind his shop with the tank sticker STILL ATTACHED.
Sometimes it is just a matter of knowing where to look or asking the previous owner if they saved anything.
