Searching for parents Corvette
Hi, I have decided to search for a car my parents owned decades ago. 1964 Corvette Coupe S/N is 40837S111261. It was in Michigan Center MI in the late 70's around 1976 to 1979. My father sold it but have no clue as to whom acquired the car(remember him telling me someone off M-50) so I thought I would start with the forums. More curious to see if the car survived. Any tips on finding the car will be welcome.

What was the color combo? Do you know what engine it had? It's great that you have the serial number, but a description of the car might ring a bell for somebody. I know of a white over red '64 bought in the late 80's in the Kalamazoo area that's been squirreled away ever since, but I have no idea what the VIN is.

It was a Sapphire Blue, black interior with a white stripe on the hood, best guess on motor was a basic 327 manual transmission. Yes, I got lucky on the S/N, cleaning out their home and packing up stuff I came across a set of brand new plates from 1976 that had the original registration with them. Plates never made it to the car.

Bill Gould is the owner... serious inquiries cost about $300
He just located lots of pre owners for me.

Not being listed in C-2 registry nor NMVTIS is not what you want to hear. Could still be out there in a barn somewhere, or even in a museum or someone' long-time driver. Update us if you get info - some of us really enjoy this type of search.

The biggest roadblock is trying to pull up the VIN at a DMV since it is not 17 digits long...if they try to type in the vin I think they are getting an Invalid Entry response. Does anyone know how DMV's store this information? So it can be accessed?
Thanks

I would not write but call them and sell your story, you will need a "permissable" reason to get the current owners contact information, you have an old registration for the car so you can mention that as well as your family story. If they won't give you the current owner they will at least get you to the guy who sold it to the current owner and he may know who he sold it to.

I am looking for my first car, a 58ragtop. I have the plate from the car but not the vin number. You would think that the plate is connected with the vin number since you cant get plates without the VIN # I owned this 58 back in 1965 and early 1966. I put a 327 into it and the body color was silver/blue with silver coves. I bought and sold the car in Racine Wisconsin. My dad sold it for me as I was in boot camp at the time and when I returned from the service 4 years later, no sale info was kept. Any help on how to proceed would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
Good luck and keep us posted!

1964 coupe
I sold a 1964 corvette in 1973 to a guy that lived in Ann Arbor when I first met him but I seem to remember he had moved to the Jackson Area, which is very close to Michigan Center. The 64 was dark blue with a white stripe on a 67 big block hood that I had installed on it. Here is a picture of it when I owned it and it would have looked exactly like it when sold.
Do you know any more history of the car?
