Head gasket leak?
As I was cleaning up my engine today I noticed a fair amount of oil grime on the front of the block - more on one side below the head.
I'm thinking that the most likely source is the head gasket although I didn't have any other "blown" head gasket symptoms. Is this possible?
While I have the engine out, should I replace the head gaskets?
Thanks!

Anti-freeze in the oil and vice versa is a sign of head gasket gone bad. Grime under the head would more likely be valve cover gaskets that have leaked and the exhast burnt the old oil off.

If it is getting in the combustion chamber you can also smell it out the exhaust. When you pull the valve covers, look for a white sludge on the oil. Sure sign of a leaker.
