rebound straps
Does anyone know of a source for axle rebound straps for a 1958 – without purchasing the hardware kit?
This is for a daily driver 1958 and the old hardware is fine with nuts and bolts. I just need the straps and it seems like all suppliers are selling them now only with the hardware.
Any thoughts on leaving the straps off?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

You do not need the straps. However, if you want replacements and do not wnat to buy the lit, go to a army surplus store or maybe a marine sailboat shop and buy some webbing that matches the width. should do the trick.

The straps are there to prevent the driveshaft from contacting the "X" frame if you unload the rear springs when hitting a bump (would possibly damage the shaft and the trans, plus the rear mount). Better to have the straps than not.
Have seen black seat belts used (strong nylon), that should be available in any junk yard for a song.

With the car at normal ride height, you should have 2" to 2-1/2" of air between the bottom of the axle tube and the strap in order to keep the prop shaft off of the "X"-brace reinforcement:
