Bearings to put sm journal crank into big journal block
Once upon a time there used to be special thick bearings available to put a small journal crank (such as a 283 or 327) into a big journal block (350 block). Does anyone know if these special thick bearings are still available? If so, from who?

I remember the bearings being made to put the 350 shaft into the 400 SB. I don't remember the ones you are talking about for small journal into large journal main bores.
I would check with TRW and Federal Mogul/Speed Pro.
If you want I will check with my brother's shop in Florida to see if they are still in the catalogue.

Here is what I found out today. Clevite still makes the THICK bearings to install a small journal crank (283-327) into a large journal block (350).
SIT YOURSELF DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My cost at the local NAPA store is about $200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they are NOT stocked, they have to be ordered (would take about 4-5 days). It is VERY possible that they would be cheaper through the discount mail order places such as Summit, a person would just have to call them and see.
The Clevite part number for a set of these bearings is MS1110H. They are ONLY available in standard, .001 and .010 undersize. So, if a person had a crank that is, or has to be, turned more than .010 undersize, you're out of luck!!!
The phone for Clevite (if you want to call and verify first) is 800-223-9152.

Holy crap!!! I would think you could almost buy a new (or reconditioned) large journal crank for that much $. Must be made of some tough stuff.

No other manufacturers they use that have the bearings for small journal shaft in large journal block. Doesn't mean they arent out ther, just that these bearings are not listed in their current suppliers catalouges.

I'm sure the demand for these bearings is quite small--------------and will get even smaller as time goes by. As I see things, the only demand for a small crank into a big journal block would be limited mostle to building a 302 or a 327 of correct configuration. AND, the only 302 with a small journal was the 67 Z/28, the 68-69 Z/28s were big journal 302s.
If a person wanted to build a period correct 327, that would not be quite possible, because the large journal 350 blocks do not have the hole in the back of the block for crankcase ventilation.
But, I was asked the question.
