Default Quick Wheel Question

Why do so many people go with 17x7 aftermarket wheels? Will a 17x8 not clear properly? If a 17x8 will work, can someone post the correct offset / backspacing for the 17x8?

I have a 63 with TT II's that are 17x7 with 225, 50 up front and 235 ,50 in the rear with four inch back space. I tried 17x8 with 235,50 in the rear first but they were going to hit the fender if I hit any bumps. It would probly work if the rim were 4.5 inch backspacing.Remember tire height will effect clearance 45,50,55,60. There are lots of good tire fit articles in the archives.

Default Tire Size

Ddo your fronts hit the frame? Are you using offset trailing arms in the rear?

My tires dont hit the frame or wheel wells and I dont have offset trailing arms. The only thing that might come into play is I have a fiberglass rear spring and the outboard ends are a little shorter. But a stock spring would still clear my set up.

I ran 17x7's on all four because I tend to spin the wheels quite a bit and like the availablity to rotate my tires.. Also I don't think I could have shoved much more tire up under there without off sets and flares... I did move the ebrake bracket to the top of the trailing arm so I could try a wider tire next time though... Dave...
